cupster
Thanks for trying to assist knight, I really appreciate your efforts."vault" is the term the program Folder Lock uses to refer to a locked and encrypted folder. Basically when you open folder lock you select a "vault" that you have previously saved and type in the password and folder lock opens a new virtual drive (the vault) with the folders that you selected in it.With Eset version 4, and all previous versions, folder lock works flawlessly, but with ESET v5 or v6 when you try to open the vault (hidden folder) the computer just hangs up. The biggest mystery that if I disable ESET v5 or v6, and then try to use folder lock, the same thing happens!folder lock link and discussion is at the link below//www.nsaneforums.com/topic/102898-folder-lock-7-registration-key-activation-guide/page-2?hl=%2Bfolder+%2Block?do=findComment&comment=517468 Edited January 25, 2013 by cupster

I'm testing it with Folder Lock v7.0.5 and the latest version of ESET now with no issues.
cupster
You are awesome Knight, thank you so much for taking an interest in this topic, and offering you wisdom and guidance. I am using folder lock 7.1.8.Do you think that the issue could be with comodo firewall (the defense portion of comodo) blocking some function of ESET? I am baffled how it does not work even with both eset and comodo disabled.I really appreciate your efforts.
Knightmare
I've found that even with ESET disabled, it still blocks applications. You are using NOD32 and not Smart Security, right? cupster
Yes Knight, I am using just the AV, NOD32. But at least you answered a major riddle for me, the whole disabled concept was something I did not understand.

Maybe it's the way that another program communicates with the new version of ESET and Folder Lock. I have the files and I'm creating the virtual machine. I just thought I would give you some more things to troubleshoot while I test it on my end. Would it be possible for you to send a pm with all of the programs you have installed? Not sure if I'm allowed to request this or not, but I would like to see what else is running with ESET, Comodo, and Folder Lock. cupster
There are no other programs running other than eset, folder lock and comodo. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your time and efforts. It is really appreciated.

cupster
the firewall is Comodo free version 5.12.something. I even had it in training mode before disabling it and it still did not work.

I have ESET NOD32 v6.0.308.0 and Folder Lock v7.1.8 installed, but I am able to open the locker that I created. There is nothing in it though. Comodo is on version 6, by the way. cupster
If you are able to open your locker, then you have shown that it is something in my setup that is incorrect, but besides turning HIPS off, essentially the rest of the eset settings are at the default. I hate being a noob....Does it sound logical that since it works for you I must have some setting incorrect? And did you get it to work even with HIPS turned on? Did you have to change any default settings in eset.?I have tried to make it work so many times I am leary of trying it again, for fear of damaging something, unless I can fiure out which setting I may need to change.Again thanks for all the time and effort it is really appreciated. cupster
Knight, xp with all the latest updates. Wouldn't you think that it would have to be something in the eset settings? Heck you even had HIPS turned on, and that should have been the most limiting. Edited January 26, 2013 by cupster

tezza
@dc, are you out there amigo as i would like to ask your advice.I have been testing various AV for a couple of weeks now, and found that EAV to be best suited to my needs. Fresh installation now with CFW installed( a must have for me) ,before i go ahead and install EAV could you tell me of any rules/exceptions i need to add to EAV, so they play amicably together. I know you personally use this combo, so a quick heads up would be great .cheers
