Ponting
Well lets hope that is true about IFW. My computer after that windows 8.1 SP1 or whatever they called it update. Just looped. There was no way to get to anything in windows. It just booted and almost would get to the Log In screen and then would reboot again. It did not matter what one tried to do. You could not get to any recovery area of windows. You could shut down the computer and turn it back on and it would just loop. Holding down the Shift Key while it was rebooting did nothing. The only thing that worked was to a complete Factory out of the Box restore with the Recovery disks I made when I got the Computer. My computer is a New well 5 month old Toshiba Lap Top. I never want that to happen again. I now have Hybrid Start turned off also. Something to think about. I also have an Image For Windows Backup but like I said there is no way to use if you can not get to the appropriate place in windows to restore it.It's recommended always to test the recovery media after it is created.Would Acronis have helped you in this scenario? You can make use of EasyBCD to add Recovery ISOs/environments of Imaging software to Windows Boot menu,so that you can recover your system without any bootable media like CDs or USBs.http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/tutorial-booting-into-a-winpe-recovery-environment-without-using-a-bootable-media.303906/For example, you can see how to add AX64TM to Bootmenu.See screenshots

But then today I discovered an update of DD to version 12, from 4 months ago, and now I can't do it anymore. :(

dcs18
After performing a few trial runs, I am beginning to like this new stripped version. So could you elucidate in a bit more detail? I created a boot USB but have not got a chance to test it yet.Well, I had the opportunity of testing out a couple of beta builds heralding the release 2015 and remember witnessing data integrity failures in 2 to 3 out of every 15 backups created. This final build (5539) though, is a totally different story - have yet to come across a single failure in the more-than-25 backups performed, so far (with my customary BootCD.).I also installed this just for giggles on a couple of laptops that were (anyways) due to be formatted and was pleasantly surprised to find that bloatware is now been quite reasonably cut down for the sake of ease of use, for Home Users - resource hogging is now been reduced but still not sufficiently enough for Professionals to switch from the BootCD to installation. All in all, the enhancements courtesy of the strip-down should appeal to Home Users - the Pros. have just a bit of extra reliability going their way, with this release. The future is not at all bleak, as reflected in the last few pages of this thread - Acronis as usual, has shown the way with their innovations.
