Battery drain warning about Google Chrome in Windows 10

Microsoft has conducted its own set of benchmarks to show that its new Edge browser offers longer battery life on Windows 10 when compared to Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, and now the company is ready to make the jump to the next level.

Windows 10 has started showing notifications on Windows 10 devices to warn users that Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are eating up too much battery, recommending users to switch to Edge browser in order to experience better autonomy.

“Chrome is draining your battery faster. Switch to Microsoft Edge for up to 36 percent more browsing time,” a notification that showed up on Windows Phone app developer Rudy Huyn’s laptop reads.

Paving the way for Edge improvements in Anniversary Update

Microsoft has confirmed in a statement for VentureBeat that notifications warning users about the high battery drain on Windows 10 devices have indeed been introduced earlier this month, adding that both Chrome and Firefox are targeted by these messages.

“Microsoft Edge was designed exclusively for Windows 10 with features and functionality that enhance the browsing experience such as Cortana, easy sharing, reading, and researching,” a company spokesperson is quoted as saying.

“These Windows Tips notifications were created to provide people with quick, easy information that can help them enhance their Windows 10 experience, including information that can help users extend battery life. That said, with Windows 10 you can easily choose the default browser and search engine of your choice.”

These notifications seem to align with the release of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which will bring significant improvements to Edge browser, including support for extensions. Microsoft developed the extension support in Edge to allow easy porting from Google Chrome, so developers who have already created add-ons for Google’s browser can also bring them on Windows 10 with little effort.

For the moment, however, there is no way to block these notification messages specifically, but depending on how users receive them, an update in this regard could very well be released.

Another way

1. go to settings type in  icons

2. Go to  turn system icons on or off and disable action center.

Also it can be turned off in group policy

1. Open Edge

2. Download Chrome or Firefox

3. Delete Edge

LOL! It's built-in and you can't delete/uninstall it unless you use MSMG toolkit or some other 3rd party thingy.

I know i uninstalled it before I don't recommend it because you cant  reinstall it without repairing windows . you can just block searchui.exe ( Cortana) with a firewall that way she cant call home  and  use it as normal windows search .Edge don't never call home unless you use it . Just don't use it  if you don't like it .. don't mess up you're system lol .

Yes, I know that. In fact I have a simple registry key tweak to disable telemetry and disable cortana altogether. Also have the same to disable automatic updates, driver updates and Win Defender etc. I do updates manually.

Do you test it with a ip sniffer   ?  because i used O&O shut up  and it still calls home some and i to have block it with a firewall . If you don't monitor you're internet traffic you don't know do  if it really works are not.

Bro, no program/software/tweak can completely disable telemetry if it does then I've heard reports that Windows doesn't operate properly, it freezes/crashes randomly. So yeah some telemetry is still there but major things which are accessible to us are off by my side.

Not true,  i been blocking it all with a firewall for years . Windows 7 and 8.1 has a setting to disable it even .

If this was true windows would crash without the internet lol .That was some hogwash that someone who don't know how or don't have the right tools to block it made up.. windows don't require internet too work . Its not a chrome O/S. The worse thing a firewall can do is block you're internet access and if you know how to use one  it cant do that .  When you block something it just simply thinks its offline, if you need it you can just unblock it . When I have a internet outage my PC works just fine to do offline things and it cant call no were.. Its not logical to think restricting internet would do anything other than block the internet.

You're apps you use online ,Host process for windows  and system is the only things that is required to have internet.  If I install something i cant block that don't need internet and i cant block it i consider this virus/malware type behavior and replace it something that don't act this way.   :P
