@0binYes, sometimes FF get not responding cause of it, seemed some recursive execution by Policy Control. Will learn that later for sure, just want to see stable release first :)

@Undertaker Blocking image with Adguard is not so effective compared to what Policy Control and uMatrix do, I guess. For now, I just keep using all of them. :)

If you're running Adguard, it's not a good idea to use any other blocking add-on like Policy Control, uMatrix, etc., etc. — that defeats the whole purpose.

Have not tried Policy Control — but, when pitted against the (uMatrix + uBlock) combo, I found Adguard to be more effective (also, with the same set of rules, Adguard blocks more elements.)

The above conclusion was drawn, using beta versions of all the above-mentioned blockers.

Can you tell a few things:-

  • What version of Adguard are you using?
  • What browser(and version) are you using?
  • What rule did you add to block images?
  • Can you tell via an example or a site name whose images Adguard is not able to block?
  • What exact problem did you face in blocking images via Adguard?

I feel ashamed. It didn't because I didn't realize the sites are in my disable list :doh::P, I tested it with FF ESR to open nsaneforums.

probably one last question. For blocking like this, does this completety not receive data or just hiding the element/image? I actually do this just for saving data. :lol:

thank you @dcs18 @Undertakerfor the hints :dance:

@rach

There are various parameters on which filter rules can be classified, one such is whether the element is blocked or simply hidden.

Let's say we want to hide the nsaneforums logo at the top left.

Rule 1 - nsaneforums.com####img[src="http://www.nsaneforums.com/uploads/monthly_2017_08/1_1_logo_ipb.png.c66d23f03e51114c6be037584318d197.png.4a2602d8e7dc93788e4546cbac658a3c.png"]

If you will add the above rule you will see that it hides the logo but because it's only an element hiding rule(and not a blocking one), the element is still loading in the background and hence using your data.

Rule 2- ||www.nsaneforums.com/uploads/monthly_2017_08/1_1_logo_ipb.png.c66d23f03e51114c6be037584318d197.png.4a2602d8e7dc93788e4546cbac658a3c.png

If you will add the above rule, you will see it not only hides the NSF logo but blocks it completely, thereby preventing it's loading in the first place and hence saving you data.

You can go to the network tab of your browser(F12) and you will see in the first instance element is still loading in background whereas in the second instance the element is completely blocked.

Generally, the rules with '||' are block rules and those with '##' are only hiding rules. Keep in mind this is a very basic difference.

Blocking the given ip's on first page does not seem to work with IDM anymore. Is this method mo longer working? Are there any other methods to activate IDM?

Edit:  OK, sorry. I found the solution. Thanks.

Actually it make sense to just check them once again, because we have been using domains now instead of IPs.

@dcs18 What does Adguard say, are the latest IPs being used while checking for IDM update, IDM registration and while downloading using IDM?

Nah, there's no new IP — it's been just those 33 IPs since a long time.

BTW, which firewall are you running? yXZVmpE.gif

Yes, Softexia made some radical changes to their site quite some while ago — I remember offering to create a new tutorial here, if people were interested but since there was no response, I left Softexia alone.
