Wine 1.9.14 Brings Better Shader Model 5 Support in Direct3D, GDI Improvements

   Wine 1.9.14 released

 

The development team behind the popular Wine open-source software used by many Linux users to run Windows apps and games, have announced a new milestone towards Wine 2.0.

Wine 1.9.14 is now available for download, approximately two weeks after the launch of Wine 1.9.13, bringing better Shader Model 5 support in Direct3D, GDI (Graphics Device Interface) performance improvements, additional work for the upcoming Direct3D command stream, various improvements to the write support in WebServices, as well as the usual bug fixes.

According to the changelog, Wine 1.9.14 fixes a total of 20 issues that have been reported by users since the previous development release, which means that there will be much better support for various applications and games that are designed to run only on Microsoft Windows operating systems. Kingsoft Office 2012 and Guitar Rig 5 will perform much better

Among the Windows applications that received fixes during the development cycle of Wine 1.9.14, we can mention ExpressQuantumGrid, Kingsoft Office 2012 (both Free and Commercial versions), AveraSell 4.3.8, OPML Editor, Skype for Windows, and Vermoegensbilanz. On the other hand, it looks like there's better support for the macOS 10.12 Sierra operating system.

Shattered Horizon, Spellforce Platinium Edition, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Fallout 4, Warcraft 3, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, Guitar Rig 5, Flame in the Flood, and many Unreal Engine 4 games should perform a lot better now under Wine. More details about the fixes implemented in Wine 1.9.14 should be found in the changelog attached below.

You can download Wine 1.9.14 right now, but we recommend that you wait for this new version to land in the main software repositories of your GNU/Linux distribution before you update.
