One of the objectives of malwares is to report back to the Makers about the host machine/s — therefore, they need to deal with the firewall if they aren't able to call home. All said — yes, this is but just a workaround. Take a look to: Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> System. He thinks that your friendship might be affected by this difference of opinions. My personal point of view is it: We are know each other from years, don't let someone / something to break our friendship, more than that when is about programs. The best thing in life is that we are different, we can have different options, but, during these years, were more things that kept us united than to divide us.
