LeetPirate
it helps alot. thanks man! but if someone still uses xp it`s good enough, right? the only problem would be that it can be disabled/killed really easy, right?I would say yes but proceed with caution especially if you bank on 1 realtime protection like me. As far as I know, the definitions are the same for all versions of nod32 and personally I disable the advanced guessing features and rely on definitions only because they are more reliable so in theory you should be able to detect the same number of viruses. in theory... Leave on the web scanner and heuristics just to be safer; better to be able to detect it while floating in ram before it has a chance to attempt to cripple nod32. I just cannot remember the name of the virus but there was a big one some years ago that killed my pc running nod32 v2.7 even with max guessing heuristics etc, it actually killed most of the other popular AV processes so I didn't feel bad about Nod32. tipo
nowadays no Av is good enough. we must think outside of the box. try different approches to internet security.i think it passed at least half an year since i stopped relying on antiviruses as my main protection.virtualisation, sandboxing, hips- i think those are the future of internet security. try to work more and more with them so that i could understand them better. LeetPirate
I actually take my chances with 1. lol. I think with enough experience you learn which sites to avoid and to check shady looking websites html code for link trickery. Also most browsers these days put up a massive block on malware related websites so we're pretty safe I'd say.I need the max cpu and resources for other things like rendering, encoding, gaming, etc. Nod 32 v4 didn't even max out the core it was using for the smart scan, I forgot to mention that previously, top speed per core was 3.8Ghz and the smart scan only hiked up to 2.6ghz on core #1. tipo
i totally agree. the first Av is you! the problem is when you want to install a game, a software that has a keygen, a patch etc.you could get infected without knowing, without the av detecting anything. that`s why i`m saying we should look further into the future of IS. hellohello
The trial days should be reading some stupidly big number. You may need to restart the gui to see that. Thanks for the fix PurplebeanZ, I use this on my old desktop, norton 2011 on laptop but since box is busy to update his fix, I might later switch to nod v4
spootnack
@ dcs18 : No problem. It's OK. Peace. @ tipo : When you said : as i said this thread is created for helping people who really wanted a new fix for v2.7, who really liked the "detection rate", who liked the UI and for the nostalgic. this was not created to be an A vs B thread. I remind you that your own topic is called : NOD32 Version 2.7 to use or not to use... And : we are not here to argue but to help. as i said before whoever wants to use it ids free to do so and the ones who don`t like this av just use whatever they want. So I gave my opinion and objectively. If you are not happy that I criticize your software, you should lock your topic. @ heath28m : (+1 added for post #117. Nice !) @ LeetPirate : (+1 added for post #124. Nice to see your objectively answer ^_^ ) @ ALL : When someone say someting like that (against me) : spoot: stop posting expert opinions by copying from one place to another. if you have something to say, say it with your own words. 1) Even if I "copy" text (I didn't copy, I quoted ! It isn't the same thing !!!!), I wanted to show "expert" opinion from ESET themself, if you aren't happy with that, don't read my posts. 2) As you've probably seen, English is not my mother tongue, it's hard to write in english (for me), so it's why my sentences are like the sentences of 10 year old children. ( ). So if I try to "optimize" my writing is to make your life easier. Yes, because it takes me much time and resources to try to write properly... That's it ! I said what I would said. Cheers. ++

elohelomg
Believe it or not, i actually went through this entire thread, and read everything. I miss nod 32, and, i was going to post a thread about it a while ago, but, never got around to it.I would love to see nod32 with an updated engine, but still light on resources, as it use to be. Now adays, i find myself either running linux, or behind prevx, with defensewall or malware defender set to practically deny everything. All in the name of security. But i do miss this, so, i say thank you to all.its nostalgic.
tipo
you`re welcome! this is why this thread was created. for the nostalgics. :P
portage
Nod 32 is awesome but I prefer no AV at all. Just Appguard + MBAM free. I might use this for my other comp. Thanks a bunch!
elohelomg
So nod32 2.7 would be fine, if we were using it just to remove viruses, not to prevent them, correct?
portage
no because it is an older version.. not so effective anymore. you may as well get v4 from somewhere. My opinion.
thylacine
NOD32 v2.7 (server products) to be discontinued beginning February 2011 End of Life announcement for NOD32 version 2.7 server products. ESET will begin phasing out server products based on the ESET NOD32 Antivirus 2.7 engine on February 1, 2011. SOLDIERX
You know what's odd, I have the 2.2 fix with 2.7 and it still updates and I don't get any of the username/password prompts. If you wish I can upload the older fix for comparison purposes. The file is called "NOD32.FiX.v2.2-nsane.exe"
