vissha
Microsoft's Own Figures Show Windows 10 Losing Market Share, While Windows 7 Is On The Rise According to NetMarketShare, Windows 10's usage share growth has stalled recently. It lost some share in February, and made only very minor gains in March. The analyst firm’s numbers seem to suggest that Windows 10 has run out of steam. But that’s usage numbers -- people using Windows regularly on a monthly basis -- which isn’t quite the same as market share. If you want to know just how well Windows 10 is doing in that respect, Microsoft’s Windows Trends page has the figures you want, and they’re currently showing the new OS losing share to Windows 7. Microsoft last updated the Trends page two months ago to reflect the state of play of the OS install base as of November 2016. When I reported the update I said the numbers were fake because Microsoft had its new OS growing at the rate of one percent a month, from July to November, while Windows 7 declined at exactly the same rate. It just seemed all way too neat, and unlikely, especially compared to the trend we've been seeing with NetMarketShare's figures. At the end of the last update, Microsoft had Windows 10 on 46 percent of the market, and Windows 7 on 39 percent. Now Microsoft has updated its Trends page once more, so it covers up to February 2017 and the numbers are very interesting. According to the software giant, Windows 10 grew by two percentage points in December, putting it on 48 percent. At the same time, Windows 7 fell one percentage point, to 38 percent. But then in January, Windows 10’s market share suddenly drops one percentage point to 47 percent, and Windows 7 rises by the same amount. The figures remain the same in February. (For those that are interested, Windows 8.1 had 12 percent share in December, January, and February, and Windows 8 had 2 percent in those three months.) Those are the global numbers. According to Microsoft, in the US, Windows 10 was on 57 percent in November, and December, but lost two percentage points in January to put it on 55 percent, where it remains in February. Windows 7 was on 33 percent in November and December, and rose to 34 percent in January/February. In the UK, Windows 10 had 59 percent of the market in November, and 61 percent in December, a 2 percentage point increase. But it then lost one percentage point in January (60 percent), and another percentage point in February. Windows 7 was on 29 percent in November, went down to 28 percent in December, then rose back to 29 percent in January, and up another point to 30 percent in February. I remain to be convinced by the install base numbers Microsoft is claiming, but if they are even close to being accurate, then it’s interesting to see Windows 10 losing share while Windows 7 recoups some of its losses. steven36
Only thing i see on that page about windows 7 is OS install base it shows Windows 10 being ahead of Windows 7 every since Aug 2016 it says Windows 10 is ahead ir has 47 % and Windows 7 has 39% that they gained back from losing in DEC. Windows 7 lost 1% in DEC 2016 . I shows Windows 10 gaining 2% in DEC 2016 but this was the holidays when people buy new PCs And it went back down 1 % to 47% Jan and Feb Windows 7 got back its 1% it lost in DEC is all . 1% is nothing out of 99% I dont really believe M$ no way there is no way more people use Windows 10 than Windows 7 since Aug . .Most likely many Windows 7 users have telemetry turned off and some are not even doing updates since GWX this maybe could explain things .But everyone knows Windows 10 collects telemetry at a basic level is low as it goes unless you block it some other way on Windows 7 it can be turned off . But also Microsoft got caught counting Devices not sold yet before and also they count Xbox and phones too . OS install means installed on anything just because they installed it on a PC dont mean someone even uses it yet. They way they show it Windows 7 broke even from there lost in DEC and Windows 10 is still 1% ahead from there gain in DEC. It dont show March even. It's also other forces at Work like Android ,Mac OS , IOS and Linux effects some of there install base as well. Android is the most used OS in the world now. straycat19
We just rolled out 15,387 new laptops with Windows 7. That should skew the data a little bit for the month of April. We image 100 laptops in a room at a time and have 5 rooms setup like the one below. The actual imaging takes about 30 minutes, but teardown and setup require about another 30 minutes. On an average day we can do 3000 laptops in 8 hours. When an employee starts it up, he/she logs in with their network login and then the laptop is automatically connected to the encryption server and it is encrypted with their login. Fast and painless. That should skew the data a little bit for the month of April. Why would a business spend all that money buying Windows 7 laptops just to have to buy windows again in 2 Years and 8 Months because if you dont you will become non complainant and face fines?.It sounds like a bad investment buying PCs with a 7+ year old OS to me . Right now most companies are stagnating and putting it off too the last minute or ether they are testing Windows 10 preparing for the change . But you're company is buying soon to be non complainant Windows 7 pcs that dont even make any sense ! Most business don't' upgrade but about once every 6 years. Most are still using the very same pcs they bought right before XP ran out of updates and didn't even buy new ones they bought refurbished ones in 2012 or 2013 . I know the US Govt paid out millions of dollars a year to get XP updates after 2014 and they are not going do this with Windows 7 . They got contracts with Microsoft and upgrading too Windows 10. Window 7 gaining back 1% of it's OS install base it lost since Sep 2014 is not impressive at all Windows trend page shows Windows 7 growth is pretty much dead . It shows Windows 7 having 76% of the install base in Sep 2014 and ended up at 39% at Feb, 2017 and it had 39% in Nov 2016 It all so shows that windows 7 have been losing OS install base every since Oct 2014 this was along time before windows 10 was released and right after most business upgraded from XP to Windows 7 so how do you explain this ? No one is buying windows or PCs with windows much since they left XP is how.. And Windows 10 only gaining 1% since DEC 2016 shows it's not growing very fast ether. It lost most of it growth when they stop offering a free upgrade. But that will change for a bit the closer it gets too 2020 .Strange thing is if you look at Windows trend page today it's not even showing the latest results like it was yesterday . Did they pull them or something? maybe it's the ip i'm using on the vpn.. i will check this is strange its showing old results from 2016 now! Edit: Yes it was my ip i used a another browser with a browser VPN and it shows Feb 2017 so this means it depends on witch country you're from do you see Oct 2016 or Feb 2017 that is really strange .
