CrAKeN
Mozilla Firefox 52.0.2 released Mozilla released today, March 28, 2017, the second maintenance update to the Firefox 52.0 web browser for all supported platforms, including GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows. Mozilla Firefox 52.0.2 comes about eleven days after the first point release, versioned 52.0.1, which most of you probably use on your personal computer at the moment of reading this article, and which addressed a critical security issue, specifically an integer overflow discovered in the createImageBitmap() function. "An integer overflow in createImageBitmap() was reported through the Pwn2Own contest. The fix for this vulnerability disables the experimental extensions to the createImageBitmap API. This function runs in the content sandbox, requiring a second vulnerability to compromise a user's computer," reads the security advisory for Firefox 52.0.1. What's new in Mozilla Firefox 52.0.2 The Mozilla Firefox 52.0.2 point release does not appear to patch any security flaws. Instead it addresses a crash that occurred on startup on various GNU/Linux distributions, repairs the loading of tab icons on session restore, and fixes an issue where new Firefox installs would fail to prompt the user to change the default browser setting. Other than that, it looks like Firefox now uses the Nirmala UI, an Indic scripts typeface created by Tiro Typeworks and commissioned by Microsoft, as a fallback font for additional Indic languages. You can download Mozilla Firefox 52.0.2 for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from our website. The Firefox 52.0 series remains an ESR (Extended Support Release) branch that Mozilla will support with security updates and other bug fixes like today's 52.0.2 build until March-April 2018. Read the release notes for more details about the issues resolved in Firefox 52.0.2, and we recommend that you update your installations as soon as possible.
