CrAKeN
Old games developed for the first versions of Windows still running fine in Windows 7 Upgrading from Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10 is often a challenge for many users, mostly because the process experiences all kinds of roadblocks that in the end lead to app compatibility issues, stability problems, or other bugs that show up at random times across the OS. YouTuber Andrew Tait decided to try something that’s a lot more complicated than that: it’s not an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, but an upgrade from the very first version of Windows all the way up to Windows 7 (which can then be upgraded to Windows 10 as well). MS-DOS games still running on Windows 7 The process started with MS-DOS because the very first versions of Windows required it, and was performed with virtual machine software, which made the whole process a little bit more convenient. And yet, the experiment took no less than 3 days, out of which 12 hours were used exclusively for upgrading and installing the operating systems. “The whole procedure took 3 days, of which approximately 12 hours was spent doing the actual installing - the rest of the time was spent trying to obtain valid copies of windows,” the YouTuber explains. “One of the biggest problems was that Windows 95 and 98 came in two versions - Upgrade and Full. I had old disk copies of every Full version of Windows, but they cannot upgrade earlier versions. Luckily I was able to borrow a Windows 95 upgrade disk from a friend, and 98 was installed by renaming system files to trick it into upgrading.” The most interesting thing is that some games that were installed in MS-DOS, including Doom 2 and Monkey Island, are still running correctly in Windows 7, which is impressive to say the least given how old the first version of Windows currently is. The experiment is clearly worth a view, especially because the whole thing is packed into a 9-minute video, so click the play button below and watch the transformation of Windows as it happened. virge
Windows 7 and Windows 10 are probably the most used today. I'm sure many people still use XP or 8.1, etc, etc. But from a stability standpoint, 7 and 10 is what most are running on. If you are using Windows 95, ME, Vista, etc.. it's time to upgrade. luisam
A funny information but a rather useless experiment. But, may I say, it took me about 4 hours to install latest updates for Windows 7. By the way, it's not clear how YouTuber Andrew Tait could install MS DOS 6 to run Windows 3.1 on the same computer enabled to run Windows 10. I understand that to do that, there are some hardware conflicts of OS software with mother board, processor and hard drive size. 12 hours ago, virge said: Windows 7 and Windows 10 are probably the most used today. I doubt if there is any significative number of Windows 9x and ME users around the world. As for Windows XP, I use it because I have hardware somehow not compatible with Windows 7 and I don't feel happy about replacing them. Probably that and the fact that new computers might be expensive, is the reason most peolpe have for keeping Windows XP
banned
You can upgrade from DOS all the way to Windows 10 but you will still need to wipe and start over if you want 64-bits I got Windows 10 Pro for free with the Insider program but I still prefer XP or 7 or 8.1. I got a computer given to me at my work place, they upgraded all their pcs, and threw out the old ones. Dell Inspiron 530 4 gigs ram - It originally had vista on it, and i put 8.1 on it, then i got a copy of 10 and put that on a separate HDD, making the dual boot setup. When I boot into 8.1 I am horrified that things take so dam long, its not even a contest, Windows 10 wins hands down. It is now to the point that i feel confident that 10 will work for this machine, it runs everything I do on it, and guess what? I am wiping the 8.1 drive and going solely with Windows 10 and use the 8.1 drive as storage. Goodbye Windows 8.1, I will not miss you. OMFG even 7 is faster than 8.
