Windows 10 Users Petition Microsoft to Stop Removing Features in Branch Releases

Microsoft removed Cortana and Windows Store off switch

Quote

Microsoft has made some changes in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update that haven’t exactly been well received by the community, as they block IT admins from disabling certain features, such as Windows Store and the installed apps.

As part of this change, Microsoft is making policies disable these features exclusively available on the top Windows 10 versions, including Enterprise and Education, so those running Home or Pro can no longer block certain features.

In a petition that has recently been published, users are calling for Microsoft to stop removing features for current branch releases, as they consider this to be a cheap way to force them to upgrade to more expensive versions of Windows 10.

“Stop the bait”

The petition has a little bit over 150 signatures at the moment, but it’s very likely to gain increased support in the coming days, as it’s still a new effort, and not many have heard of it.

“Two times now you have release branch releases that have removed settings that allow administrators of systems to better control the operating system and now require us to purchase the Enterprise or Academic SKU in order to protect our systems,” the petition explains.

“Branch releases should not remove management control features that were shipped in an earlier release unless they are replaced with a mechanism of equivalent ease in a network.”

One of the changes that are part of this new approach makes it impossible for IT admins to block the installation of pre-installed apps and games, such as Candy Crush Saga. The policy called “Turn off Microsoft consumer experiences” is no longer available on Windows 10 Home, and Pro and IT admins are required to upgrade to Enterprise, Education, or Server in order to get such functionality.

Microsoft hasn’t yet commented on this changes, except for a TechNet article, so it’ll be interesting to see how the company reacts to this petition, given its new strategy more focused on transparency and user feedback.

Microsoft removed the SETTING that allows the removal of the junk, NOT THE JUNK...

The fight is to keep the ability to remove the junk without paying for an extra.

Would you like to have your car ABS brakes disabled at your next (free) oil change because you did not pay an extra (enterprise licence)? Every big update Microsoft made to Windows 10 removed features. Search the 'net. People hate Windows 10 for a reason.

That said, Windows 7 is the champ!

You can still not use or I mean disable Cortana I'm on version 1607 and no Cortana. First I hide the icon and then I DO NOT CLICK the "Get to Know Me" or turn it off if it is on which mine wasn't by default so that is still an available option. I see so many people are literally searching for something to b*tch about like the politicians they are all liars we know this. I suggest FACT check and stop lying, Cortana doesn't work unless you use the icon with "GET TO KNOW ME" turned on PERIOD!!! What you guys should be talking about is that 1607 has disabled or not enabled 91% of the Telemetry but did any of you notice that NOPE instead you hunt and try to find a negative.

Picture below shows this is after upgrade to 1607 of course I will now block the remaining. if you go to optional you can disable more of bing and Cortana feature if you're paranoid like most of us are which I did just that. I suggest Spybot anti-beacon it is the cleanest and safest way to disable 99% of the spying. I'd like to see you do that for OSx and Linux they have to have send home features in order to bug check and get the app user rate's.

Never have one of these petitions ever done any good from that site . Like the one here while back  about the EFF too take on Microsoft . There not going  listen to you so  its a waste of time  Microsoft  even have it's own feedback hub were you can complain to them  directly  it dont do no good . All this stuff you can tweak in any version to disable . If people put half the effort into looking for methods to fix things as they do complaining about stuff  most of there problems would be solved . Instead they complain and they never get solved . For all Microsoft knows a bunch of Windows 10 haters that dont even use it signed that petition . :P

Im more worried about them fixing bugs so it runs good for everyone that uses it , than them adding things back that can be tweaked in the registry , with a firewall and other workarounds because I use it and actuality know what and what  not is going on.

In threshold  you could disable her when installing  it by tuning it off but still it calls to bing anyway even with her disabled i used O&O shutup and Windows privacy tweaker and turned it off and blocked search with my firewall in RS 1 after i installed as far as the store i uninstalled it too but my firewall has option were i can block the store or block updates from the store . But since you have to sign in with a MS email to download i never use it. so i removed it :)

The settings removed are supported(!) by Microsoft. Businesses need supported solutions. Not hacks.

Microsoft can't even get the Anniversary Update right... That talks about the failure of their internal quality processes! And they try to sell that mess as Windows 10 Pro? Home Premium maybe...

As for online petitions, the success depends on the cause and how well they are written. Most are not professionally written, removing a lot of credibility. Of course, Microsoft is currently disregarding the needs and desires of their users, so the impact is uncertain. However, acting as a single voice is more powerful than 100 posts on their Answers forum.

Don't use it then !  here is a little story about  a petitions  in Canada  on change.org

Quote

For Canadian petitioners, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is, so far, online petitions are only valid in the province of Quebec and the Northwest Territories. The Federal Government requires all original signatures on paper. The good news is, according to the CBC, digital petitions will be valid in Canada from the day the House of Commons sits after the federal general election on October 19 this year.

Quote

Spotting a successful e-petition is trickier than a site like Change.org will make it seem. Change.org allows creators to mark petitions with Victory, but you can’t always confirm that the petition is what made the difference.

Remember how we talked about e-petitions not being valid in Canada? That didn’t stop Canadian man Tyler Doose from petitioning on Change.org to have the Government of Canada ban microbeads.

The petition urged Environment Canada to ban microbeads – but Environment Canada doesn’t work that way. They don’t just ban or allow things because so many people ask them to. Environment Canada banned microbeads not because of the petition, but because they reviewed 130 scientific papers that made it clear that the plastic beads aren’t degrading – they’re making their way throughout the ecosystem and the food chain, with unpredictable consequences.

So you might be asking, “What’s the deal here?” The answer is, petitions are about more than just how many signatures they can amass. They’re about getting groups of people together, united with one voice, and making a reason for decision-makers to listen – even if it is informal. A petition like that helped to put some attention on the issue of heinous microbeads, and shows Canadian support, but we cannot know exactly what difference it made because Environment Canada was addressing the issue anyway.

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/online-petitions-ever-accomplish-anything/

These people marked there petition was successful when  the  Environment Canada was going fix it any way hahaha , a lot of the wins on change.org are fake wins! :P

Reminds of these sites were they request to reupload  and the publishers were fixing to reup anyways  and the fools in the comments think there request was filled when it wasn't.

if you think Microsoft is going change anything because you signed this,   people have been signing petitions since the early 2000s for Microsoft to do this or that  and never changed nothing  Google it.   There closed source  the only thing they understand is money . If its not on there agenda  already they will not change it . Maybe if business refused to buy there products  and switched to Linux or MAC OSX  they would listen  but  not because anyone signed this.   :)

Watch when Redstone 2 comes out if they don't remove more stuff in pro ,if they don't  do it before they removed group policy for the store in pro in th2 in a update it was already removed before redstone was released even.  They want business on enterprise  and not on OEM   :)

Sign up for Microsoft's "Feedback Hub" in app store and give them a feedback of how you feel what you would like done, get your friends to do it to only way Microsoft listens that is why they created the App also if you do it multiple times a day and or every day we actually will see results within 6 months. I have an inside connection with Microsoft QA and production on New OS's. I was born in Seattle and my Uncle owns a successful PC business up there and has met with many of the board members and current CEO. You have to go threw their hoops or they wont really hear or see it they are far to busy with fixing security holes and adding new features for both desktop and mobile market worldwide over 400 million windows 10 pc's of current but what goes directly to MS employee's from high to low level is the "Feedback Hub" also don't be a jackass and cuss, scream and rant at them you will be ignored give a valid view and point keep it rather short and sweet.

If you believe what comes out of Microsoft's figurative mouth, these days the company is all about listening to feedback. That's certainly the message that has been put forward with Windows 10, with the Feedback Hub app being made available to everyone with the operating system installed. Microsoft makes much of the fact that Windows 10 is installed on around 300 million computers, but the reality is that a portion of these installations relate to people who have been hoodwinked into upgrading from Windows 7 or Windows 8.

How has Microsoft tried the patience of users with Windows 10? Let me count the ways! We've have 'promoted apps' in the Start menu (ads by another name), and with Windows 10 Anniversary Update you -- you lucky, lucky people, you -- can expect to see the number of ads double. Oh… and there are ads on the Lock Screen too. The trickery with the current 'upgrade to Windows 10' popup is not the first time upgrade offers have pissed people off. There are tales of endless nagging and 'accidental' upgrades to Windows 10, when many people just want to avoid it forever.

But it's not just home users that Microsoft is testing. Windows 10 Pro admins are prevented from blocking users from using the Windows Store, wrestling all-important control from their hands. For those apps that are preinstalled (don’t get me started...), users are pestered to leave reviews. For those using Insider builds of Windows 10 there is also the matter of being nagged to provide feedback about the operating system itself. (Yes, I realize that giving feedback is sort of the point of the Insider program, but I'll do it when I'm ready, OK?)

There's the lack of control over updates... and then, of course, there are the endless privacy issues -- telemetry as Microsoft sanitizingly refers to it. There's the phoning home, the recording of how long people use Windows 10... it's just one thing after another.

Windows 10 really does feel like an exercise in which Microsoft sees what it can get away with. If it pushes things too far, it can always retreat and, possibly get back into people's good books. It’s one thing for Microsoft to use Windows Insiders as guinea pigs for new ideas, it's something completely different to perform experiments on people who don’t even have -- or want -- Windows 10 installed.

Something needs to change. Microsoft's install base of 300 million may sound impressive, but how many people have been disillusioned along the way? How many people have been pushed to OS X or Linux because they’ve just had enough of being played with?

Time to change your attitude, Microsoft.

http://betanews.com/2016/05/25/windows-10-pushing-users-to-breaking/

this was written back 3 months ago before the Anniversary update  that failed to install on many computers .  The writing  was already was on the wall long before RS1 was released  I bet many fanboys  when it didn't work for them was eating Crow That was the best part about it watching the fan boys scramble  to roll back to TH2 because RS1 botched there computer  ..   :P

Feed Back Hub is just like these petitions if its not in  M$ agenda there not going to listen, Back when  Gates and   Steve Ballmer ran it they made good software that you paid for that was dependable. but now days  they dont have a idea of what they  are doing even,  they  are a multi billion dollar company who keeps laying off there workers and uses Windows 10 users as  Guinea pigs

rjkNpnx.jpg

With every new version of windows 10 it becomes a little less like windows and it shaping into some kind of tool  for M$ to make money from while you use it.  Many people have a hard time accepting  the fact that Microsoft dont care about its users or there workers even  all they care about is what will make them money and since everyone owns a PC or 3 or 4  Windows have not made them no  real money since 2013  .  The only thing keeping it alive is the fact business need it and selling them OEM pro very cheap  before 2020 is not going to line there pockets  full of money like they want .

The annalists have done predicted  if windows was to make a recovery  it would be short lived and a very small one  . The paid desktop OS business is a thing of the past in a world were everyone else gives there OS software away free, M$ still tries to sell it.

And when 1000s are in the news complaining about there latest  major update has botched  there PC  it dont look good that's the last thing they needed .

There not in the people pleasing business there in the Money making business is all. They would  lay off all there Windows  desktop employees like they did at Windows 10 phone  and call it a loss before they pay people and not earn a profit.

I worked for places like this.  if  they cant recover they downsize and move there business  overseas and do it for slave labor wages, that's if they dont just go bankrupt . And if they cant make software that's dependable for business and consumers  anymore.  that's were there headed  only time will tell will they ever make Windows 10 were the 80% of desktop users not on it will ever use it?
