If you have COMODO with D+ on, protecting important registry keys is as good as done ;)

Yup. Comodo's D+ asks you if you wanna allow a change to the registry or not.

I have this thing against "free" programs...is someone could PLEASE PM me the link to the pro version, i'd be every so grateful. Malware Defenders gui is so plain. =[

ESET Smart Security is a tightly integrated solution designed to protect computers from a range of threats. Built on the award-winning ESET NOD32® Antivirus and its powerful ThreatSense® engine, ESET Smart Security provides antispyware, antispam and customized firewall features. Utilizing ThreatSense — the industry's most advanced heuristics — the window of vulnerability between virus outbreak and signature update is reduced.

The key advantage of this approach is that individual protection modules are able to communicate together seamlessly, to create unparalleled synergy to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of protection. Moreover, the integrated architecture guarantees optimal utilization of system resources, so ESET Smart Security continues ESET's well know reputation for providing rock solid security in a small footprint that will not slow down an individual's computer.

ESET Smart Security provides:

* Proactive Protection: award winning ThreatSense technology combines multiple layers of detection protecting you from Internet threats before it is too late. The included antispam and personal firewall features provide you with a total security solution.

* Precise Detection: ESET accurately identifies known and unknown threats. It consistently wins top awards from testing labs and is recognized for having zero false positives.

* Lightweight Design: Smart Security requires less memory and CPU power, allowing your computer to run fast, making more room for games, web browsing, and emailing.

* Fast Scanning Speeds: ESET Smart Security is a highly efficient program ensuring fast file scanning and product updates, while running quietly in the background.

ESET Smart Security is a new product designed to provide comprehensive protection against a variety of threats. It features the following:

• The next version of ESET's anti-malware engine with comprehensive protection against adware, rootkits, spyware, Trojan horses, viruses, worms and other types of malicious software

• A personal firewall with port stealthing and advanced filtering features

• An antispam filter with Bayesian filtering, whitelisting and blacklisting.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus + Antispyware

• This component is in fact an improved version of the award-winning scanning engine of NOD32 Antivirus v2.7. With respect to program's unprecedented scanning speed, the following improvements have been made:

• Improved system of cleaning and deleting infiltrations. The antivirus system now intelligently cleans and deletes infiltrations with no need for user interaction.

• Computer scan can be run in background in order to use only a part of system resources. Thus scanning will not affect the

performance of your computer and you will be able to work on it as usual.

• The resident protection supports archive scanning.

• Update optimization, smaller update package size than in version 2.7, more effective management and protection of update files against damage.

• Email protection for users of Outlook Express.

ESET Personal Firewall

• Firewall monitors all traffic between a protected computer and other computers in the local network and in the Internet. High quality protection is provided by the following functions:

• Scanning of application protocols HTTP and POP3 (used for Internet browsing and for retrieving email from servers) for infiltrations.

• Checking low-level network communication which helps to avoid many of various remote attacks.

• Ability to recognize the character of network connections established by various types of infiltrations and ability to automatically terminate them.

• Filtering of incoming and outgoing communication based on user defined rules.

• Monitoring changes in executable files.

• Interactive and automatic mode. The former enables you to create your own filtering rules, the latter filters all communication automatically.

ESET Anti Spam

• ESET Anti Spam serves to filter unsolicited email, which makes your work with email more effective. The key features of the ESET Anti Spam are:

• Support for the RCF email format

• Supports several scanning techniques including the combination of Bayesian filter, virus signatures and user defined rules.

• Supports the creation of Blacklist and Whitelist.

• Integration with the Microsoft Outlook messaging and collaboration client.

• Ability to control multiple messages simultaneously.

If you are interested in computer security and would like to get a chance to influence the development of ESET's security systems, we invite you to join our Early Access program. Gain early access to the latest technology in beta and release candidate stages.

I mean ESET SS has same features as Bussiness Edition.

I believe it does... the difference is that one provides a serial for multiple company computers, the regular edition just provides one serial.

The business edition helps you to protect from threats coming form your servers, etc. It is powerful. ;)

What additional features? I have quite an infrastructure of personal servers..

ESET Business Edition is same as Retail version except it has the module to interface with the remote admin console/client. That's the only difference. If it's server protection you want you have to check out their server products which might be pretty hard to get a fix for though.

The pro version of their firewall is easily found, but non updatable. But i dont recall eset ever having a "good" firewall, at least from my experience.

COMODO Firewall Basic and Pro are just the same.

It's just that you get dedicated technical support if you purchase COMODO Firewall Pro.

If you don't believe me, go and ask at their forum: Link

Yeah thats right Remote Admin.. I had that before..I was wondering for a second that I didn't have my stuff hooked in right or something..LOL

I have ESET Remote Administrator v3.1.11 so you can always let me know if you want it. Personally I find ERA a little technical to get installed and running as compared with other endpoint security like McAfee and Symantec but those solutions are too slow and crappy at this time so ESET FTW once more.

LUA (for daiy use and visitors) + SRP ( deny all executables / no autorun)

Outpost Firewall (HIPS disabled - not needed)

Sandboxie (For browsers only)

Shadow Defender ( used per case)

Avira antivir and A-Squared (both free) for on demand scans (mainly for scan downloaded stuff)

GMER

Secunia PSI

Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer

NMAP (to check the firewall)

Vmware Workstation (Think can be added how a security tool to run keygens and test if things work)

Sometimes a scan ( with one moth or two ) a scan with Dr Web/ Kaspersky)

Ah waiting for the new Avast 5, the new Prevx RC 3.0.4.183 be compatible with Sandboxie and for the Acronis 2010 with the time machine ( hope the feature is good - cannot make EAZ-FIX/Rollback RX work here).

the security come bundled in the OS... and in the fact that linux is not mainstream... i think count.

Wonder if linux counts as a security setup. I might try that...

If you use your Linux box as root all the time, you don't need a virus, you could easily screw yourself.

Accidents have happened to me in the past. There are viruses for Linux btw, just that they are in a form that require root access to screw you over, lookout for privilege escalation security holes in your build and be sure to patch often. Slackware is one of the tightest and one of my favourites, but I see some great things happening with Ubuntu with regard to user friendliness. Using Linux for everyday tasks might be inconvenient for many people though so you could just use a cheap ultra low power mini ITX system as a gateway firewall or proxy to protect your entire home network.

You know... I have crashed so many Linux installations .. its not even funny..LOL.. The last one was Ubuntu 8.. ( now I just go virtual ) I was trying to get the Media Program to play an MP3 disc..I might try the recommendation though when I get the house fully networked..sounds like a cool idea anyway..

What about all of the Wireless hacks for Linux?.. I mean I have read more often lately about some issues with several different kernels..

For what i see the issues with linux are closed quick (one of the advantages of being open source?) and for wireless WEP or a VPN service i think can help.... is a difficult task protect against man-in-the-middle attacks.... not much to do... maybe someone with more knowledge can talk about... anyway for windows the new prevx have a interesting new feature which can help:

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=253396

(take a look at post 3 in the screenshot.... with this new version this feature will be full available in the free version.) lets see how it do... when the final version version come probably i will add it... the free version not remove malware only detect (with shadow defender or sandboxie is not a bad thing - if something popup simple empty the virtual enviroment) and it authenticate a lot of system/program files in the cloud whitelist part - the most interesting part.

Man-in-the-middle attacks can be avoided by using L2TP (Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol) connection. I don't know of any others that could also prevent it but PPTP is not one of them.
