Feature suggestions in the Feedback app

 

Microsoft has pushed Windows 10 to the Windows as a Service approach, which means that the company will provide updates for the operating system as soon as they are ready, without having to wait for a specific release date.

But there’s no doubt that the upcoming Redstone update will be a critical point for Windows 10, as it will include a plethora of improvements, among which Edge extensions and new Cortana features.

And yet, judging from the suggestions posted in the Windows 10 Feedback app, users expect something a little bit different on their desktops from the next updates.

Live wallpapers and brightness sliders

First and foremost, the most voted feature in the Windows 10 Feedback app/desktop section is a new icon in the system tray. You might be amazed at how insignificant this request could sound, but more than 1,000 people have already voted for Microsoft to replace the speaker icon in the system tray with a similar headphones icon when the system detects they are plugged in.

Additionally, many want live wallpapers on their PCs to bring their desktops to life. But this obviously is more difficult than some might be tempted to believe, mostly because live wallpapers would need additional resources and could slow down the computer.

Then, there’s the GPU information in the Performance tab of Task Manager. “Loads of software and Windows itself use the GPU all the time. I want to know the percentage of GPU usage and how much memory is being used,” the suggestion reads.

The fourth and the fifth most voted desktop feature requests call for Microsoft to add an option to rename the desktops in order to better organize work, but also to add a brightness slider. Right now, Microsoft lets users adjust screen brightness to four different pre-set levels.

As usual, the more votes, the bigger the chances to see them implemented, so make sure you send your feedback if you want these in a future Windows 10 update.

Mass voting will ensure that bling features get voted up.

 

I would vote for two under-the-hood "old" features:

1. BRING BACK controllable updates like in the past.

2. BRING BACK detailed release notes for cumulative updates (a.k.a. service packs / roll-ups).

Not surprisingly, looks like Microsoft is sanitising that list. Blind Freddie could see that forced cumulative no-detail updates would have to be infinitely more important to users than a poxy headphone icon.

 

Yet more obvious Microsoft deceit, deceptiveness, and sneakery. No wonder few trust them.

I'd put in a vote for the live wallpaper and the update issue.  Ms can at least distract people with the live wallpaper so their users forget the update issue.
