to be honest the setup in security that i have follows several different routes! - but in this order as they are encountered!

lets start off with the router, that has a firewall that to be honest i really distrust - so i have in turn set up a DMZ

External connections.

HOME DMZ - this is on it's own ip address, and the computer is seperated from the rest of the network no traffic whatsoever is allowed from this computer to any other on my internal network.

in turn all traffic that i haven't specifically forwarded to any other computer goes here. and i let guests use this computer if they visit that way i don't really need to care about what they are doing on there.

From the router to my firewall server - once again i have set this up so that it works only as a firewall traffic that comes through here will then be forwarded to the right places, however anything that does come through to here directly without authorization will just be dropped and it won't even show that there is a system here, - this has it's own IP Address.

Internal connections,

the prior mentioned server is connected to an internal router, which is then connected to four computers / laptops - all internet connections go through this to the firewall Server for access to the internet!

one computer is then set purely as the SFTP/Torrent server on a linux os

and the other computers connect wired/wirelessly to the internal router - which has it's own firewall and port forwarding rules.

The Torrent Server has only a firewall that my other computers can connect to through certain ports on a web interface or through an FTP Client.

All other computers have

I still believe that the best form of defense is common sense! - if it looks dodgy don't download it! - user error is 90% of virus and malware attacks!
