geeteam
According to a very reliable source – the same source that correctly offered a concrete date on the iPhone 6 event last month, no less – the new hardware and software will be announced at a special event on October 16th, to be held at Town Hall. John Paczkowski from recode was the first to really throw some weight behind the iPhone 6′s September 9th announcement, and given his track record, there’s very little reason to doubt his assertion that the iPad / Yosemite / Mac will be showcased on 10/16.As well as giving Apple fans a date to mark in their diaries, Paczkowski also underlines the lingering rumor that a Retina iMac is on the horizon. Earlier on this week, it was reported that a 5K 27-inch iMac would be forthcoming, and although there was no mention of a corresponding upgrade to the 21.5-inch model, those looking for a Retina-standard experience at desktop level mightn’t have too wait too much longer. There has also been talk of a Mac mini refresh, which seems a little strange given that it would need to run on Intel’s ageing Haswell processors as opposed to the almost-finished, next-gen Broadwell. But nevertheless, after such a long time without any attention, we certainly wouldn’t baulk at some improvements, and while Retina iMac seems a little more set in stone, here’s to hoping the forgotten Mac mini will be remembered come October 16th.Yosemite is also expected to be rolled out to the public around the time of the event, so expect to hear a few more words spoken on the latest flavor of OS X, while both the iPad Air and iPad mini 3 look set for an almost identical set of changes. As well as a gold color option, both will likely be treated to Apple’s A8 processor, although it’s suspected that the Air may include more RAM in preparation for some upcoming “pro” features. Elsewhere, both models will also be getting Touch ID, and also, some anti-reflective coating on the front panel.Source
