On my systems the only purpose that Skype serves, is to activate Windows and Office — when Skype 8 was introduced, I had tried it but found it lacking in granularity and had therefore downgraded to the V7. On the V7, one can use a blacklist firewall policy to prevent advertisements by blocking the hostname apps.skype.com — besides a firewall, there are so many other programs that can also be used. Always good to see old players on The Playground. I tried-out Windows 10 Firewall Control (W10FC,) twice — didn't like it the first time (because I'd used the Free edition — it sucks) was impressed with the Network Cloud edition sufficiently enough, to replace Windows Firewall Control (WFC.) The firewall-blocking method for IDM works fine with Windows 10 Firewall Control (W10FC) — there are many other advantages, as well (shall write a review when I find some time.)
