@mara-
Fixes has nothing to do with your problem. Check this here.

Thanks for the pointer to wilderssecurity ;)

Although I'm sure un-installing/re-installing ESS will fix things, it seemed note worthy that this has clearly happened to a number of users?

Maybe it was something in connection with receiving the last update that screwed the install of ESS 3.x?

I guess 3.0.350 is an older build of ESS 3.x, and it was maybe a bug in the earlier builds that created this issue?

Cheers

I was using 3.0.684 - I didn't install no updates. Just used the patch.

@Mara - don't bite my head off when I DID the right thing and provided the error message...

Like i said the install of ESS only messed up after that patch - if its an ESS side error then fare do's..

shought,

Can't you explain how to delete the registry entries manually?

By the way, harpua, I disabled the program temporarily and tried to unistall it, but it didn't work. Then I disabled it again, because it was already enabled, and booted the computer in safe mode, just like you said, but it still didn't work.

Thank you anyway

Just run the DUTCH Nod 32 Removal Tool...

Hello.

I'll work on this shortly.

If I made an inadvertent error along the way, it was with mara-1.4. I ran through all of the previous fix cycles and found a kernel communication error with this fix only. My previous message attachment then changed to the one now attached. I'll let you know how the edit works later in the day.

Thanks all, for the advice.

@Sonar, @box, @mara-

I too have started to receive the General Compile Error described by @Sonar ;)

I'm facing the same problem here, the update stopped at version 0407.

I tried to clean the update cache, but the update still complains that there're general compiler errors.

Just now, I managed to solve the problem, though I'm not sure if this will always work.

(I'm using XP3 with only the Marsu fix 2.5 by the way. )

1.Navigate to your ESET folder in Program Files

2.Delete files that look like this: em0x_32.dat (x is a number from 01 to maybe 13)

3.Update again.

That's all what I did, and finally the update succeeded.(HAPPY~~)

When I saw that the marsu fix 2.5 was no longer in the ESET page

(Right now there's only the boxmara fix) I was wondering if the fix

is no longer working. Good to know I don't have to tear down my install

and start all over agagin...

Anyway, wish you good luck on solving the problem.

@chrisTM

I'm not really sure what do you want? Hoca explained you how you need to do it.

@famliytr

If you're using Eset v4 MarsuFix will not work.

@Sonar

I did mean to offend you, but I know what Ipm saying and I know how fix works, since box and I made it, so I'm 100% sure that fix did not cause your problem. When making all my fixes, counting from mara- fix to box, mara- fix I'm sure that I tested it with eset over 100 times and I never got that error. You should try with suggesting made by famliytr.

@all

Those who have problem with General Compiler Error should try what famliytr suggested.

Cheers ;)

I'm sorry mara-, but I have to point out that you're wrong here :P If you're using the instructions I provided in the _Readme!.txt of the Marsufix 2.5 for ESET V4 then it should be working, not as well as the box, mara-fix, but it works ;)

Thanks, everyone.

That registry key would just happen to be the one I missed before performing the reinstall to repair the General Compiler update error that some of us have come to know over the last week. All seems well at present.

Thanks again.

Ok guys, I've done some research and here are my results:

ESET released ANOTHER module update, because of this the servers are under high load again. Adding to this not all the ESET update servers do have the latest updates(will clarify later). An older update causes this 'General Compiler Error' and it might cause some other error(telling you the Antivirus module could not load).

2vkypw6.png

The procedure to get the latest updates(I'd recommend waiting for the ESET servers to recover if you're not having any problems):

- Open ESET, Advanced options and disable Self-defense.

- Reboot.

- Go to 'C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus or Smart Security' and delete all files called 'em0x_32.dat' (x is a number from 01 to maybe 13). To delete these files Self-defense has to be disabled, if you still can't delete them please try using a free program called 'Unlocker'.

- Open ESET, Advanced options, press 'Clear update cache' and enter one of these updates servers:

http://89.202.157.136/eset_eval/
http://u32.eset.com/eset_eval/
http://u33.eset.com/eset_eval/

http://u49.eset.com/eset_eval/
http://u51.eset.com/eset_eval/
http://update.eset.com/eset_eval/

- Pick it as update server in the drop down box.

- Try updating 5 times.

- If you didn't receive the update yet repeat the three previous steps, but pick another server.

- You should now have received the latest ESET updates.

If you have any additions to this explanation please post them here ;)

Huh?? I thought MarsuFix 2.5 was aimed at Eset V4 ? (No? :wacko: )

shought is right, my setup version is 4.0.314.0, well, not quite new, but is running just fine, even now, with marsu fix 2.5.

I'm installing the box/mara fix with the newest version of Smart Security right now. I started up the Eset fix and I see a small window with two options: Self-defense and remove trial watermark. Do I just close that window? Is the fix complete?

When I try to update my virus definitions on Eset, it says that I need to enter a username and password. Help, please? Thanks.

@Sub0Freeze

After you opened the ESET_fix.exe file you have to press 'Fix It'. Then you should reboot and try updating, if ESET still asks for username/password please try using eset for both.

Also have a look at this post.

@famliytr

Thanks for your tip on deleting the .dat files, I've been meaning to try a fresh install of ESS 3.x on the puter I have with the general compiler error but I've just not had time, so I will try what you've suggested, hopefully that will work :)

It's sounding to me as if it's a corrupt update that's caused the GC error, maybe due to the congested servers? :s

@shought

I thought part of the mechanism of how the box, mara fix works is deleting the list of update servers on the target machine to ensure you receive an up to date list of servers direct from ESET? If so, how about just re-applying the box, mara fix? :)

Which module is due for an update?

Cheers

Note2: It seems that ESET trial servers are back to business. Every server works great. Also, Eset added new servers, and in order to get them, remove v1.0 fix and install v1.1. If in the future ESET adds again new servers, just re-apply the v1.1 fix.

Hello, again.

I had an interesting experience after receiving the latest A/V definitions, 4007. After rebooting a little later, I received a non-green tray icon and firewall component start errors. I've enclosed an attachment from the resulting tool log event window.

I run the A/V, not the ESS.

After another reboot, the problem was gone.

The definitions seem to be a little buggy, as of late. I'll clear the dat files again.

Glad it is working for you.icon1.gif

As I said, I have not used it myself so could you please briefly describe how it works.

Also are Instructions included.icon14.gif

Thanks.

Hmmmm....Ok, for those who are interested in MiNodlogin...here are the details:

The new features are:

* Works with the self-defense 4 ESET activated.

* Does not require Administrator privileges (or elevation in Vista).

* Also available for 64-bits.

The three improvements are because I have updated the method by which the license is inserted, now uses the same console window antivirus, simulating the user when they get a license manually. For this reason, you may see "flash" a window.

Changes in version 3.0.0.2:

* Correction of the bug: sometimes, the insertion fails and the window is open if licensing MiNODLogin runs during system startup.

Changes in version 3.0.1.0:

* Removing fallen 2 servers.

* Added 1 new server.

* Added language: English / English.

Changes in version 3.0.1.2:

* Correction of the bug: if you are using ESET SmartSecurity (ESS), it may happen that you install a license that is valid only for ESET Antivirus (EAV), leaving the ESS non-functional until you insert a new license.

Changes in version 3.0.2.1:

* Add 3 new servers, Waldemar thank you!

* Are ignored / discarded licenses TRIAL type.

Changes in version 3.0.2.3:

* Added quiet mode, for those who bother notification emails.

Changes in version 3.1.0.1:

* Restatement of the program structure, no changes are visible to the user.

Changes in version 3.1.4.2:

* Added module test servers. Minodlogin.exe-test.

Changes in version 3.2.0.1:

* It allows you to select the language for installation.

* Added the option Go to the official site to enable users to update the program.

Changes in version 3.2.4.9:

* Fixed some flaws in the translation of the installation.

Changes in version 3.2.5.0:

* Added the option "Start test server" to the menu of the program.

Changes in version 3.2.5.2 and previous:

* Fixed bug to detect type ESET install (EAV/ESS), Thx to Waldemar!!!.

* Added the option "Run test of servers"

* Setup in English/Spanish language.

* Added option => Go to MiNODLogin Official Site (for updates)

Changes in version 3.2.5.9: * The information was corrected on the

version of the components of the program.

Changes in version 3.2.7.1: * Correction of bug: the insertion of the

license fails, some times, if the program is executed during the

starting of the system. To activate the option "not to validate the

present license", increases to the probabilities of occurrence of

problema.La pifié

Changes in version 3.2.7.2: * Correction of bug: If it is had

installed ESS the Business version, can get to be inserted a nonvalid

license.

Changes in version 3.2.7.3: * Correction of bug: the insertion of the

license fails, some times, if the program is executed during the

starting of the system. To activate the option "not to validate the

present license", again increases to the probabilities of occurrence

of problema.La pifié, jaja

* Correction of bug: The desinstalación of the previous version does

not begin during the present installation.

Changes in version 3.2.7.4: * Attenuation of bug: the insertion of the

license fails, some times, if the program is executed during the

starting of the system. To activate the option "not to validate the

present license", increases the probabilities of occurrence of the

problem. It would have to happen less followed, I delivered my better

attack jaja

* The option was added "To return to try to install the license" for

when the insertion it fails, rare time, during the starting of the

system.

Changes in version 3.3.0.1: * The module search of new versions was

added.

If the option were activated (during the installation), the program

will connect with this post, and of to have published a new version,

it will show a message the user warning that a new version has been

published.

The latest version is 3.3.0.1.......

MiNodlogin can be schedule as per Nodlogin (see the tutorial page).

It will verify license and insert it if existing license is blacklisted. You can also insert a new license if you want (there is an opinion to do it)

You can opt to run MiNodlogin to run at start-up, run in silent mode, can even tell you if a new version of MiNodlogin is available for download. The choice is there upon installing MiNodlogin.

MiNodlogin is install in the default folder as Eset. ie Program Files\Eset

It will show in Add/Remove to enable you to remove it if you want!

My personal choice is not to let it run at start-up of windows but to schedule it to run as per tutorial page.

No other interaction is required after installing and scheduling.

It has been running smoothly since I installed MiNodlogin, no problem with updating, no intervention required.

My EAV v4.0.417 is working as it should be on XP Pro SP3.

When there is a new version of MiNodlogin available, I just double click it to install and that's it, as all the rest of the configuration will remains.

Confirmation on the server update. Definitions 4008.

I decided to reapply the mara- box 1.1 as opposed to deleting dat files because of earlier successful update.

Also, that will let me see about that firewall error I received earlier.

Thanks and sorry for bothering everyone.

Marsufix 2.6 was aimed at V4, but it didn't work properly.

Wow, I didn't even know there was a 2.6 version of Marsufix..

Um, just curious, what about this 2.5 version?

It is working on the old Eav V4.0.314.0, but does it work on the newest Eav V4.0.417?

If it's helpless against V4.0.417 I might as well do some major update on my backup warehouse.

(Well, I have the habit of keeping backup copys on software setups, they're handy when your

OS went down and have to start from scratch again. BSOD happens you know.)

Same here. AV v4.0.417 from front page on vista x64 business edition. No username/password problems or any other for that matter. SD on.

Still on 4002 though but I'm sure that that's due to overloaded servers. Will wait and see what happens.

Thanks for the fix. Easy and works. What more can you ask for.

Updated manually to 4012 but automatically updated to 4016 today.
