majithia23
let me too join the league .NO AV .just FF with security add ons and general security measures on OS .supplemented with, what some dont like and rather ridicule it , but the fact is that it is in fact the best protection - Common Sense! ;)running on demand scans with mbam , superAS , Hitman PRO when ever feel like . fumia
nod32 v5 at default setting with hips off+comodo FW for me :)the only slowdown i felt is when nod32 updating it's database only for few secs thou :P
clubhouse
I use webroot Secure Anywhere.......Small footprint, lightning fast and fairly rated now after a dodgy start...If it wasn't about I'd go no AV too....they're all bloated to a rediculous size now....I'd then use either one of Defensewall\ BufferZone\AppGuard and a HIPS firewall.......And as a few have already said the best security\defence is sensible browsing\downloading. Alanon
Exactly like clubhouse. Malware Defender (coolest classical HIPS!!!!), Sandboxie (another approach to that of DefenseWall and Appguard, but simply much more configurable, and easier too!), and Webroot SecureAnywhere Anti-virus. A good firewall and virtualisation combo is all you really need for most cases, and it most guaranteedly won't slow down your system, but I still wanted that last layer of protection. :P
Smoore
I have tried ALOT of the big names. All but 2 have slowed my PC. The two that I recommend are Symantec Endpoint & Eset Endpoint. Symantec will delete items without user choice, wich sucks when it's a false detection. Eset is fast and has not falsed once even on files that Nod32 did. The Eset Endpoint RC is still free to try till 6/15/2012.

Marik
None of the above  The fastest and most effective antivirus is and get ready for it, your brain :troll:
T0nyB
None of the above. My anwser would be my brain. You could have the best malware protection in the world, but if you visit fishy sites and click on every ad you find and download everything there, then your still bound to get viruses... But if I had to choose, I don't have the best pick, I used Avast, but now I use Norton Internet Security. They both are great IMHO, :).
bibia
I'm a Kaspersky fan all the time, but since u asked about fast and effective, I have to vote NOD32. They way much faster. But for my customers, I installed them Avira Free Antivirus, fast and very effective too..I'm using Kaspersky, because it's easier to set it up the way I want, and it's pirate-friendly. I can keep any keygen/crack/patch. they got less false alarm with pirated software. I love mother Russian! LOL.. I only buy software I really need it most, except I can't afford it. :Pp.s.: I know i can password-protected all my keygens-patches-cracks, but I'm too lazy to do that. I only do that for if I have no choice. I know there's malware, but I don't care about it (add to exclusion list later once it's cracked). 0:)
