When i sit back and watch over their shoulders and tell them to do what they normally do on the internet...i always see them just clicking "yes" or "OK" when firewall pop ups come on screen...Meaning they never read the damn window to see what they just agreed to be installed or allow to happen on a web site no anti virus and fire wall combination can protect a user if the user does NOT use "their first line on defense...that is the brain they have in their heads"...that last quote is paraphrasing the big leader called "Lite"... Most ppl do not read the pop-up, or just does not understand what is being prompt as sometime it can be quite confusing to what the pop-up is trying to said. Noddy Posted July 2, 2008 Share Posted July 2, 2008 Yes very true, ZoneAlarm Pro is a very user-friendly and likable firewall - the latest version has improved comparatively and hogs lower CPU cycles as compared to previous versions. Re-install afresh (just confirm that your friend has the latest version)4. Use default settings during installation (they can always be customized, later)5. Do not neglect to install Defense+ (it's possible to disable it later if you dislike it but not vice versa)6. Towards the end of the installation allow the setup to scan for malwares when prompted tops: One can always quieten the Defense+ and Firewall further by configuring them independently as follows:-1. Defense+ Go to Defense+ -----> Advanced -----> Defence+ Settings -----> General Settings. You may slide the Defence+ Security Level down to Training Mode1. Firewall Go to Firewall Behaviour Settings -----> Advanced -----> Firewall Settings -----> General Settings. You may slide the Firewall Security Level down to Training Mode.(Important Warning From einstürzende: The Training Mode should be resorted to only temporarily like for example while playing a offline game - this Mode can compromise your system and make it vulnerable.)BTW, I prefer to leave my Defense+ and Firewall Security Level at the default Safe Mode - the only pop-ups I ever have is during an installation of any new software (this is countered by the improved Installation Mode which is somewhat like the Game Mode in ZoneAlarm Pro.) Tip: This mode can be used as the “Gaming Mode”. It is handy to use this setting temporarily when you are running an (unknown but trusted) application or Games for the first time. This will suppress all Defense+ alerts while the firewall learns the components of the application that need to run on your machine and automatically create 'Allow' rules for them. If you just randomly click an answer in every box when it asks you for an answer then any firewall is nearly useless.
