Help needed retrieving Windows 8.1 Single Language OEM key

Recommended Posts

Hello

A cousin of mine has a Dell Inspiron 660s desktop which came pre-installed with Windows 8.1 Single Language. Recently her hard drive crashed so she decided to go with an SSD upgrade. After changing to SSD, the computer shop guy installed Windows 7 to her PC. But now she's asking me to freshly install Windows 8.1 in that PC. She has the original recovery DVD from Dell which came along with the PC.

When I tried to installed Windows 8.1 on her computer, it asked me for a product key. As per my concern, the installation should automatically detect the OEM key. Later I installed the OS with a pirated key (9D6TC) which is a blocked key. Now I need you guys help to either retrieving the OEM key or a new key to activate the system.

Thanks.

First of all, Windows 8/8.1 OEM Key, also  is called as the Original Equipment Manufacturer key or OEM key. It comes programmed into your PCs. This embedded product key is stored in the NVRAM of the BIOS/EFI on the motherboard. It allows a user to re-install Windows on that PC any number of times.
So, if You're going to reinstall Windows, no neededs to input any product key, simply skip it or select I don't have key etc (it depends of Windows version, which one You're going to install). Or use ei.cfg and/or PID.txt file, or use generic installation key (it you used, this key will not activate, but only can be used to install correct version if You uses multiversion source).
If installed and You have used what ever key or generic key, what will not activate your OS, then you must change key for activation or removeve generic key at all, then is recommended to restart and if Your pc was OEM, it will activate automatically with key installed in BIOS. If there is no key or you want install any other - for example Pro instead of Home, You must have key and input it, or use any other activation method what is supported by your installed OS version.
If to speak about Your installed key, then it is generic key to install but not to activate anything - I'm telling about this key Windows 8.1 Single Language Generic Key Y9NXP-XT8MV-PT9TG-97CT3-9D6TC
This key is public and it must not/should not be hidden!

Some Windows Generic/Installation keys,

PLEASE NOTE:

These are not product keys that will function to activate Windows, these are only for installing correct Windows version witout using cei.cfg file.

Now just remove that Generic key and/or replace with a Genuine one. (This may help You on removing)
If you're sure it's an OEM computer and you installed the version of Windows with what it came out from the factory, the computer will activate itself after restarting.
If it is not an OEM computer, or for some reason the OEM information is not preserved no more in the BIOS, or you have installed a different version of Windows, your computer will not activate itself. In this case, you must use a Genuine activation key for this version or use another activation method.
There are several, but they shouldn't be posted publicly, Google search will help you.

I tried the command on DOS with administrative mode. But it replied with the pirated key I used to install the OS.

Do you not read what is written to you at all?
This is not a pirated key, it is also not a legacy key, it is a Generic Windows key that is issued by Microsoft and is publicly available to everyone, which is used to change the version locally or to install one specific version of Windows using installation media that has multiple versions (single language, home, pro, etc), if the ci.cfg file is not used and there is no other way to make a choice.
Now you need to remove this key, only then you will see if your Windows can be activated using the OEM key what is usually stored in this pc BIOS or if it is simply no longer in the BIOS of this computer. If the activation is still there, your Windows will activate automatically.
And if it is not there, there is nothing more to look for or hope for. You need to find another activation method, or use another version of Windows for which you have an activation key, or you can use some other method, such as a work or school activation server or some other KMS.
If you don't know how to remove the key or change the key, check out this site, there is a pretty accurate and clear guide with pictures.
