Windows 10 is getting all-new icons in the File Explorer

Microsoft's Windows 10 feature update that's slated for the second half of this year is set to bring some big visual changes to the OS, and it's codenamed Sun Valley. So unsurprisingly, a lot of the Windows 10 Insider Preview builds that we've seen are showing up with visual changes, and that's no different today.

Today, the company released Windows 10 Insider Preview build 21343, and it has one big new feature: new icons in the File Explorer app. This isn't the "new icon" story that you're used to either, like when the Edge browser was promised new Fluent Design icons and it just looked like the refresh button was rotated by about 45 degrees. For the new icons in the File Explorer, you can't miss them, as you can see in the image above.

They're getting big changes across the board, including all of the known folders, and even the Recycle Bin.

While Microsoft didn't explicitly say so in its blog post, you can assume that not all of these will be the final icons. For example, Microsoft changed the Recycle Bin icon back when Windows 10 was in preview, and it had to change it again due to an uproar from testers. All of this is going to based on feedback.

There are some other minor updates in the build as well. The Windows Administrative Tools folder is now called Windows Tools, news and interests is now available in China (even if not all Dev channel Insiders can get it), and the Get Help link in the touch keyboard now says "Learn more".

To get your hands on Windows 10 build 21343, you can get it through Windows Update. You'll need to be on the Dev channel, so you can go to the Windows Insider Program tab in Settings to get started.
