New Mac Pro models are rumored to be coming for 2022 that will seemingly remove the need for Intel Xeon W processors. The pricey desktops will apparently be fitted with chips that offer a mixture of performance cores and efficiency cores, leading to speculation that the future Mac Pro desktop PCs will utilize up to 64-core Apple Silicon.

 

More rumors about Apple Silicon have turned up, creating a picture that the Cupertino company is going full steam ahead with the development of its ARM-based processors after the very warm welcome the Apple M1 received. LeaksApplePro has been offering up more predictions in regard to Apple products, this time with the ridiculously expensive and very high-end Mac Pro (that’s the one with the wheels kit that costs US$699). According to the tipster, Apple will release at least three Mac Pro configurable base models in 2022, with the implication that Intel’s processors will no longer be required here either.

 

The first configuration, which will supposedly cost US$5,499+, delivers 64 GB RAM, 32 GPU cores, and a 32-core CPU that has 24 performance cores. The current top-end Mac Pro comes with a 28-core Intel Xeon chip. Moving on to the second alleged Mac Pro model, for US$11,999+ buyers can get a device with 256 GB RAM, 64 GPU cores, and a 48-core CPU stuffed with 36 performance cores. Last but not least, for a bank account-destroying US$18,999+, the top-end 2022 Mac Pro will be fitted with 512 GB RAM, sport 128 GPU cores, and boast a 64-core CPU that can offer 48 performance cores. Storage will apparently go from 512 GB to 8 TB, and a fully-specced variant will likely go for well over US$50,000, which is already possible with the current configuration options anyway.

 

Although the source does not specifically mention Apple Silicon in this particular Mac Pro post, it has been mentioned before that Apple is working on a 64-core monster that would undoubtedly feature in a future Mac Pro desktop. However, stating that the CPUs come with a mixture of performance cores and efficiency cores indirectly implies that these 2022 machines will sport Apple Silicon and not Intel Xeon processors. While some have questioned the need for so many power-saving cores in a beast like the Mac Pro, it could still help having this type of architecture in place in terms of heat development and low-level background processing requirements.

Judging of the internals of Mac Mini's that are powered by Apple Silicon which are non-upgradeable, this would be the first Mac Pro with completely non-upgradeable.

 

So say goodbye to PCI expansion slots and ECC memory expansion slots.
