Gone into hiding. :bag:

Well there's nothing like best. It's just what you prefer.

No one is actually on the top of this article. Each of them has it's own positives and negatives. Choose what suits you the most. ;)

LOLz

Raymond publishes some interesting stuff in his blog.

IMHO, one should opt an antivirus while keeping in mind one's own requirement and objective. Choosing an antivirus is a matter of deep-rooted personal choice. You'd be shocked if I disclose which one I prefer (it's not even listed on Raymond's blog.)

I have always been using a very old version of NOD32, the version which made ESET the No. # 1 antivirus a couple of years ago. It's version 2.7 and continues to be supported by ESET. I don't have an actual need for an antivirus (depend more on other applications.) The 2.7 is used only for manual scans and generally kept shut-off.

However, I do keep testing many other antivirus programs (working on Norton AntiVirus 2010 17.5.0.127, ATM)

Many people still use ESET 2.7.

Have you ever tried v4? You know it's recommended to keep new version for better way of detection blah, blah blah. ;)

Yes, the latest version is superior to my 2.7 I really don't have any use for an antivirus being more dependent on other applications. Even the 2.7 is kept with most of the modules disabled (like real-time scanner, web scanning, email scanning, microsoft document scanning, archive scanning)

Like to keep my system blazing fast.

Forget definitions, I saw your last post, it's the scanning technique also.

But anw your wish. :)

All supported versions of NOD32 share the same signature database, but still the latest V4 come factory fitted with engines that are superior in cleaning to the old version that I use.

Yikes! Not a lot of AVs can manage the "...crypted with Incognito..." variety of trojan. I've been relying on AV-Comparatives for AV decisions and Matousec.com's firewall challenge for software firewalls (Kaspersky appeared to be the only vendor with a Security Suite rated very well in both categories, recently). Now where to go from here...

@ Ravi &

@ implague

You'll need all the protection and 2.7 is pretty much useless for you guys. :secret: I'd suggest you try NOD32 EAV Antivirus 4.0.474 (not ESS) Go for the Business Edition in case you happen to be networked on a domain deployed by a server adminstered by ESET.

I'm suggesting NOD32 simply due to the huge support system (nSane support not ESET) :pirate: and you'll only enhance your learning & experience. Finally, whatever antivirus program you decide to run, it's not a bad idea to add the following entries to your exclusions:-

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Logs\Res*.log

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Logs\Res*.jrs

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Logs\Edb.chk

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Logs\Tmp.edb

%windir%\Security\Database\*.edb

%windir%\Security\Database\*.sdb

%windir%\Security\Database\*.log

%windir%\Security\Database\*.chk

%windir%\Security\Database\*.jrs

%allusersprofile%\NTUser.pol

%Systemroot%\System32\GroupPolicy\Registry.pol

If you plan to use NodLogin (exclusion):-

C:\Program Files\UlisesSoft

If you plan to use NodEnabler (exclusion):-

C:\Program Files\ESET

ps:-

Some of the above directories may not be present in your system. I use these exclusions for my antiSpyware and antMalware programs, too.

P.S: I don't know if its trustworthy, but it looks like a lot of effort were put into it

looking at the attached test & results

i think Bitdefnder is being powerful at most

kasper is doing pretty well

norton is advancing and is doing pretty well

Eset, boot time is too much delay (depending on the tests), Idle memory usage was not that good, peak scan came with high memory usage, and finally didn't detect the testing virus heuristic featurse

P.S. depending on one file as test for detection rate of the virus is not reliable at all

thanks for share

@ eXtortion

avcomparatives is a great starting point thereafter, one always can make a choice based on one's level of computer competence. ;)

@ Muhannad

One good idea is to personally try out an antivirus after making necessary backups (or setting restore points.) ;)

Ravi, that exclusion list (except the last 2 entries, NodLogin & NodEnabler) holds true for all antiVirus, antiSpyware and antiMalware programs. B)
