Microsoft blocks devices with LTE modems from receiving Windows 10 May 2020 Update

 

Microsoft has blocked devices with some WWAN LTE modems from receiving the Windows 10 May 2020 Update after it identified a bug that prevented devices from connecting to the internet after waking from sleep or hibernation.

 

Unfortunately, this was another issue that was reported by Windows Insiders back when Microsoft was testing the May 2020 Update. We were able to find multiple reports about the internet connection issues on the Feedback Hub from Windows Insiders after updating to Build 19041.

Nevertheless, Microsoft has now acknowledged the bug and has blocked devices with LTE modems from receiving the update. The company noted that some users are seeing no internet connection in the Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) after waking up the device from sleep or hibernation.

 

Windows 10 users who have already installed May 2020 Update can mitigate the issue by enabling then disabling Airplane mode. You can turn on Airplane Mode from the Action Center or by searching for 'Airplane Mode' in Windows Settings. Turning Airplane Mode on and off should let users connect to the internet again.

 

Microsoft has strongly advised against using Media Creation Tool to bypass the block as it could cause problems for the user. The company is maintaining a list of known issues as a reference for Windows 10 users who plan to upgrade to May 2020 Update.
