Microsoft has published a blog post in a new “What’s New in Web Experiences” series of posts. The firm says that it will post updates every six weeks – aligning with the stable version of Edge browser’s release. Edge 85 is expected to be offered to users in the stable branch this week. The post not only lists the features that will make it to the Chromium-based offering from Microsoft, but also adds updates from other web-based cross platform offerings.

The first in the list includes improvements coming to the Edge browser. The firm is adding the ability to export Collections items to OneNote directly from the browser via the ‘Send to OneNote’ option. The note-taking app joins other apps such as Excel and Word. The feature has been in testing for a while now. Speaking of Collections, the feature is also available on the mobile versions of the browser. The firm also announced that it is expanding encrypted sync to more education customers for the back to school period.

Another feature being added this month – which is especially geared towards students – is Picture Dictionary in Immersive Reader. The feature serves users with a picture representation of selected words, which the firm says “helps improve comprehension”. It can be turned on from the ‘Reading Preferences’ option in the reader. The built-in PDF reader also brings a new highlighter tool which helps users highlight text in 5 colors. This is in addition to the Read Aloud feature that was added with the last release.

In addition to the features for the desktop version, the recently launched Family Safety app also lets users enforce browsing limits on their children on mobile devices. The app lets parents block certain features such as InPrivate browsing, enforce restrictions on the sites that can be visited, and view usage reports.

Other updates to the Redmond firm’s services include the introduction of the Math Extension in Teams for students, the ability to donate Bing rewards to parent teacher associations (PTAs), and shopping improvements for Bing search. Microsoft news improvements such as the new live tile for the desktop app, the ability to pin the Weather card in My News, and more were also detailed.

Lastly, in view of the upcoming ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ movie, the company has announced a new coding challenge that can be accessed via a new Edge extension. The firm says that it will also be adding browser themes as the theatrical release gets closer.
