Google has started rolling out the new Gmail experience with dedicated tabs for Mail, Chat, Rooms, and Meet for its G Suite customers. The company is bringing all its various services under Gmail to allow users to get work done without ever having to leave the Gmail app on their Android device or on the web.

The four new tabs Mail, Chat, Rooms, and Meet are aimed at providing G Suite customers with an integrated workspace experience. The Mail tab will allow users to access their mails, while the Chat tab will house all their messages and allow them to message other users in their organization. Rooms are basically "spaces that include shared chat, files, and tasks to help groups more easily work on projects." Lastly, there's the Meet tab which will list all the upcoming meetings that you can view and join.

As a part of the update, Google is also rolling out new features like the ability to assign group tasks, enhanced search results which will let you filter between email and chat results, a "Do Not Disturb" mode, ability to pin rooms, and more. Users will also be able to open and edit a document alongside their team right from within Gmail.

This new integrated workspace approach will allow G Suite users to jump into a video call from a chat right from within the Gmail app, create and schedule new tasks, and do much more. Google had first announced this new Gmail redesign last month.

Google is first rolling out the new G Suite experience for customers that have the "Chat preferred" setting enabled. It is being rolled out to customers on the Rapid Release track initially and the expected completion time is two weeks. Scheduled release domains will get the update starting September 1, 2020.

Google discovers bloatware.

If this crap pollutes the GMail app, will go back to using Google stuff in a browser. At least then I can nuke all the unwanted garbage Google is shoving down our throats.

Give it a year or two and the next developer on the list to change Google stuff will change it back again.

Seems the Ars Technica readers have given this move a great big thumbs down.... https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2020/08/gmails-all-in-one-productivity-revamp-starts-rolling-out-to-gsuite-users/?comments=1
