Microsoft starts pushing out v1909 update to users running old versions of Windows 10

 

Microsoft has started pushing out Windows 10 v1909 update to users who are still running on old versions of Windows 10 including v1809. This is to ensure users are up to date especially those still on v1809. The October 2018 update or v1809 update was released last year and will reach the end of support on 21st May 2020.

 

Microsoft updated rollout plan on Windows 10 health dashboard clarifying that move is made to ensure Windows 10 users are using the latest update.

Beginning today, we will slowly start the phased process to automatically initiate a feature update for devices running the October 2018 Update (Windows 10, version 1809) Home and Pro editions, keeping those devices supported and receiving the monthly updates that are critical to device security and ecosystem health. We are starting this rollout process several months in advance of the end of service date to provide adequate time for a smooth update process.

Microsoft noted that the move is made to ensure users have enough time to update their systems before reaching the end of support. Microsoft also noted that the company won’t be aggressive with updates this time around as there’s plenty of time for the users to update their systems to v1909. To help you keep track of the end of support dates, we have added a table below showing the end of support dates for different versions of Windows 10.

 

 

Microsoft took a similar approach a couple of months back when they pushed updates to Windows 10 v1803. You can always go to Settings>Update and Security>Windows Update and pause updates for 7 days. We, however, don’t recommend as doing so might make you vulnerable to malware and exploits.

It's also worth to note that the following announcement doesn't apply to those who use Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC releases (v1507, v1607 and v1809), they can still continue to use the LTSC version; they will be remain supported for 10 years after the LTSC version released.
