System76 Refreshes Their "Darter Pro" Linux Laptop to Offer Better Battery Life 

Linux fans everywhere, please beware that a new Linux laptop will be on sale next week as American computer manufacturer System76 announced today that it refreshed their "Darter Pro" laptop to offers customers better battery life and other improvements.

Linux fans everywhere, please beware that a new Linux laptop will be on sale next week as American computer manufacturer System76 announced today that it refreshed their "Darter Pro" laptop to offers customers better battery life and other improvements.

Dubbed to be System76's "most portable machine," the refreshed Darter Pro laptop comes with a larger battery, which means that customers should expect to see an increase of the work time with a few hours compared to the older model. System76 claims the new Darter Pro laptop will last a full workday without being charged, saying the battery lasted about 7 hours during their internal tests.

"The Darter Pro was tested under a variety of conditions, including video, music, email, writing via the cloud, and online messaging programs. On average, the battery lasted about 7 hours," says System76 is a press release. "Customers have been requesting improved battery life for quite some time, so the company is confident that the Darter Pro will be a coveted option among those who prefer to work unplugged."New Darter Pro laptop available February 5 with Pop!_OS or UbuntuDespite the larger battery, the Darter Pro laptop remains thin and ultra-portable, featuring a lightweight chassis that's only 18mm in size and 1.3 kg in weight, multi-color backlit keyboard with tactile feedback, a gorgeous 15.6-inch Matte IPS Full HD (1920x1080) display, as well as 8th generation Intel Core i5 (8265U) or Intel Core i7 (8565U) processors with 6MB or 8MB cache, 4 cores, and 8 threads.

Other specs of the new Darter Pro laptop include built-in Intel UHD Graphics 620, up to 32GB Dual-Channel DDR4 2400 MHz memory, up to 2TB M.2 SATA or PCIe NVMe SSD storage, USB 3.1 Type-C with Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 Type-A, HDMI, and MiniDP ports, SD card reader, multitouch touchpad, Gigabit Ethernet, Intel Wireless-AC, and Bluetooth, stereo speakers, mic, headphone jack, and Kensington lock.

For security reasons, the new Darter Pro laptop ships with the Intel ME (Management Engine) firmware disabled by default to prevent future vulnerabilities. It is perfect for remote workers and travelers, and comes with either Pop!_OS 18.04 LTS, Pop!_OS 18.10, or Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver). The new Darter Pro laptop will be available for purchase starting next week, February 5, 2019, directly from System76's online store.
