Windows by the numbers: Sanity returns as Windows 7 sheds user share

You sure know it all Steven.  Here's how the bank forces compliance - update or lose access.  Field audits, secure leased-lines, multi-factor logins, router rules, etc. are just a few of the ways they force users to play ball.  They've got their ways of forcing business compliance.  As I said, I'm not talking about you and me doing on-line banking.  As you so prolifically noted, that's seemingly not an issue for them.  I was posting about about business gear.   I deal with and was posting about corporate systems that access proprietary backend banking software.  Perhaps you've worked in environments where banking regulations and corporate standards exist, be they from government or corporate directives.  You'll just have to trust I'm in receipt of the banks directive.  I'm not going to post confidential documents for your flaming as I think perhaps you might have misunderstood the type / class of software to which some of the systems these systems maintain must comply --these are the computers to which I refer in my post for which the bank requires Windows 10.  In summary, they asked/required I update mandated systems within 90 days or they would be severed.  Since my clients need 'em, the bank wins.  That's how they force you to move.  Simple.  Perhaps I was not clear in my post and I apologize for that.  The irony is we all know these same banks use XP based O/S's in ATM's and allow access from sorts of outdated, truly insecure software.  Who knows how much they get ripped off every year... not enough to require more secure access I suppose.

I love nsane & similar boards for 30+ years, but I don't play with standards and compliance mandates - I take the money and update their gear with whatever they mandate and are willing to pay for.  Why would I screw with the likes of BOA or Wells Fargo IT auditors and staff when we have a professional relationship that, significantly, includes them asking for service and paying their bills?  That sort of trust takes  time to build and if they say Windows 10 is required to access their software, it's required.  Who cares why?   Imagine standing there hacked by ??? and not being 100% compliant. That's how we sold hardware @ IBM back in the old days.  Maybe it was no better and maybe it cost more, but by golly, it was a defensible position that kept your job when it went down.

Mircrosoft just bought their software because they were lazy then lol..

They need something better than CP/M pronto :)

I also used DR-DOS at tha time (DR meaning Digital Research) and GEMM (their GUI OS at that time)

also used Quarterdeck EMM, Spinrite, Borland Sidekick, Central Point Antivirus Norton Commander, Norton Utilities at the time :)

Missed those days

Lazy then?  They perfected the 'good enough' software standard that relies on ship it today and fix it tomorrow.

The latest of  Firefox work just fine on Windows 7 so do the latest version of Chrome  you just do you're banking on it and use the version you want too with everything else or change you're user agent. This problem on Linux  is old as the hills  it use to be worse  you use to have to change user agent to IE  because banks didn't even support  other browsers.

So Nice bro, thanks a lot :) I'll give it a try
