Karlston
Last month, we reported that the Steam user base on Windows 10 had climbed to an all-time high of 51.23%. This time, it appears that the operating system has lost some ground while Windows 7 is clambering up once again. According to Valve's hardware report - which is based on optional user surveys - for the month of July 2017, it appears that Windows 10 has fallen to 50.49%. More importantly, this decline has been attributed to the 64-bit version of the OS rather than the 32-bit iteration. Windows 7's user base climbed to 36.99%, which is an increase of 0.85 percentage points. All other versions of Windows lost some of their user base. As a result, the overall user base for Windows fell slightly as well, and now accounts for 96.12% of surveyed Steam users. The report indicated some positive news for operating systems developed by other companies. While the increases in percentage are within the margin of error, Apple's OS X/macOS grew to 3.11% and Linux progressed to 0.74%. There were no changes in the hardware side of the report with 8GB of system RAM still the most-used configuration. The display resolution for primary displays and multi-monitor setups remained 1920x1080 and 3840x1080 respectively. While the statistics in Steam's report are certainly interesting, it is important to remember that they are based on optional surveys. As such, any changes in the user base of a particular software or hardware wouldn't necessarily represent a shift in broader usage beyond the Steam gaming community. straycat19
That may be attributable to Microsoft's decision not to support older PC's with Windows 10 any longer. If your system isn't going to be supported on 10 it will be supported on 7 until 2020, so you might as well go back to 7. I don't think Steam is able to accurately count systems when some users, like me, have multiple gaming systems, all running windows 7, but using the same login. All it sees is I am logging in from a Windows 7 machine but not which one of the four I have and use. Same with my brother, nieces, and nephews, plus many friends who have multiple gaming systems. nIGHT
I think having multiple gaming system is already a must for people who does solo leveling of multiple characters, boost leveling of weaker characters, strategy/fighting mastery experimentation (for the pro gamers), farming/mining/hunting task or for one dedicated for vending while the others is for gaming stuff. Has nothing to do with this, and this is wrong anyway, Stupid reporters scoffing at MS "preventing future major OS updates" for shitty Atom systems etc when it was all Intel's fault (for not releasing any suitable drivers for the Creator's update) and MS was just mitigating the potential issues by taking a fucking stand on it until Intel got it's shit together. Disgusting fake news, makes me angry AF. Everyone's so quick to jump all over Microsoft for anything and everything. Also a small swing here or there in percentages? Who gives a toss! Worthless news post and even more worthless "discussion". Moving on.
LeeSmithG
I was a Windows Seven (7) 'fan boy' I then tried (after a long time) Windows Ten (10) adding startisback and it's better than Windows Seven (7) now. I don't like Windows Eight (8) (my son and partner use that system, due to it being pre-installed), it reminds me of Vista.
