Microsoft Paint has been in the news since yesterday when Redmond announced that the software is being deprecated with the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. News publications all around the world didn’t report the news accurately, claiming that Microsoft is “killing” Paint in Windows 10. But that’s not the case at all.

In a statement to MSPoweruser, Microsoft has confirmed that the company is not killing Microsoft Paint. The image you see above was shared by a Microsoft spokesperson earlier on Monday.

Rather than completely killing Microsoft Paint, Redmond is instead going to bring Microsoft Paint to the Windows Store, allowing fans of the classic Paint app to install the app whenever they want. In fact, Microsoft is also going to build some of the features of the classic Paint app into the new Paint 3D app in the meantime, too.

“MS Paint is not going away. In addition to the new 3D capabilities, many of the MS Paint features people know and love like photo editing and 2D creation are in Paint 3D – the new app for creativity, available for free with the Windows 10 Creators update. In the future, we will offer MS Paint in the Windows Store also for free and continue to provide new updates and experiences to Paint 3D so people have the best creative tools all in one place.”

Microsoft didn’t provide us with a date for the release of Microsoft Paint on the Windows Store, but we’d imagine it’s not too far away and will likely make an appearance shortly after the release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update later this September/October.

This story suddenly went trending yesterday morning (Pacific Time). Too much bulls*** fake news yesterday on social media, even big names like also spread false information.

Clearly MS says Paint is deprecated (no longer in development) not removed. How could they misunderstand?

Most likely the same story as the start menu, they removed it in windows 8  because they collected telemetry and seen many was pinning programs instead of using it ..And it caused such a backlash that they promised to put it in Windows 8.1 and never kept there promise but released buggy Windows 10 th1 three months ahead of schedule. with a start menu full of bugs . You could always download a 3rd party start menu anyways and many still even use one in Windows 10 today.. Just like you will be able too dl M$ paint from the store but who needs it there are plenty of free and paid alternatives?

Here are some free alternatives were you don't have too use windows store.

It's always the the same old story from everything from text editors to browsers in windows someone makes it better ..If it was any good Microsoft would charge money for it. they should make a bare bones windows and let users chose witch programs they want too install without all the bloat, they most likely would sell a lot of them.:P

Guess that replacing Paint with a sophisticated 3D graphic editor is kind of a stupid idea, quite typical to some of those applied by Micro$oft lately..Probably 99% of Windows users (or more?) NEVER will need a 3D graphic editor! Most likely they have no idea why, where and how it should be used!

On the other hand a user DOES need frequently an easy and fast graphic editor, like Paint or maybe some a little (literally a llittle) better. Yes, there are a lot of third party free optons for this but having Paint, you had no need to get one of those.

Just as a personal experience, I've been using a Paint Shop Pro 5 Beta: it was a free demo release from 1998 and I can use it for about all my needs, except GIF and PNG optimization and icon desing; I have other free apps for that!

But, of course, by now we are quite used to these "improvements" from Micro$oft (and from many other software developers too) dedicated to release better and better mousetraps... with the excuse of the need of new and "better" versions.
