Batu69 Posted June 7, 2017 Share Posted June 7, 2017 Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, also known by its code name "Redstone 3", is the next major update to Windows 10. It is in active development as of this writing. It comes with an updated touch keyboard app. A few days ago, Microsoft accidentally released an internal build to Insiders. Users who were able to get Windows 10 build 16212 found a new touch keyboard app, which is not yet fully functional. The new keyboard app comes directly from Windows Phone with a port of the popular WordFlow keyboard. It will be available for all Windows 10 devices which support touch screen input. The app will support swipe input, exactly like the Windows Phone keyboard. These are new features of the upcoming keyboard app for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update WordFlow (swipe through letters without lifting finger for entering word) Dictation Text input via pen More SwiftKey features Windows 10 already includes a touch keyboard for computers and tablets with a touch screen. When you touch any text field on your tablet, the touch keyboard appears on the screen. By default, it appears with a limited set of keys and lacks Function keys, Alt, Tab and Esc keys. The user can enable those missing keys in the touch keyboard and make it appear when not in tablet mode and when no physical keyboard is attached. By default, the Touch Keyboard appears on top of the taskbar hiding it. You can change this behavior and make the taskbar remain visible when the virtual touch keyboard appears on the screen. It looks like for some reason, Microsoft is not happy with the current touch keyboard and is preparing a replacement for the app. Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is expected to be released this Fall. luisam Posted June 7, 2017 Share Posted June 7, 2017 While touch keyboard is necessary on phones and tablets, it's mostly useless on PC computers and even laptops. The touch keyboard, maybe not as sophisticated as this one, has been appearing since Windows 8; it is on my daughter's laptop, but she never has used it since about 4 years she is using that laptop. mantazzo Posted June 9, 2017 Share Posted June 9, 2017 To me this On-Screen Keyboard is useful especially when I want to write something in a language I don't know the keyboard layout of and/or I'd like to use some special letters from that language.
