CrAKeN
Microsoft would like Windows 10 users to stand in line in an orderly fashion and wait their turn to update to the Creators Update (CU), the latest major edition of the Windows 10 OS, released on April 11. The company advised users against manually updating to the Creators Update by downloading the ISO files and performing a clean install. Microsoft has a good explanation for this advice This is not just another random caprice from the Redmond company. Microsoft has good reasons for issuing this warning. The company says that users who manually install a clean version of the Windows 10 Creators Update are bypassing filters and blocks the company put in place to avoid bugs that have appeared in the CU edition. Just like it did with the Anniversary Update, Microsoft is using a multi-stage rollout process for shipping the Creators Update to users. The company first shipped the Creators Update to approved OEMs who helped the company test the CU edition while it was an Insiders Build. After that, the company expanded the CU rollout to latest-gen devices. Computers running older hardware will receive it last, as there's a high chance those devices will encounter various issues. Installing W10CU bypasses bug filters Microsoft explained that as the Creators Update rolled out, it did encounter bugs, as they first expected. For example, this issue with Broadcom radios that weren't reconnecting to Windows 10 CU computers as expected. The OS maker says that as soon as they detected this issue, they blocked the CU rollout to other Windows 10 workstations that have connections to Broadcom radios. "During the time it takes to address an issue, we want to limit the number of customers exposed to that issue," said John Cable, Director of Program Management, Windows Servicing and Delivery. "It’s important to note that when customers use the Software Download Site to manually install the Creators Update they bypass many of these blocks." "Therefore, we continue to recommend (unless you’re an advanced user who is prepared to work through some issues) that you wait until the Windows 10 Creators Update is automatically offered to you," Cable added. shorty6100
Yep-I made that very same mistake. I, for once, impatiently tried to update instead of clean install and ended up with a black screen with cursor. With Microsoft's plan for major updates twice a year, I guess I will have to clean install twice a year.
Pete 12
After two weeks of really hard work, day and night, I managed to make an upgrade from 1607 to 1703 . Lots of cold boot bsods and could not find the reason....... Had to reinstall some software and update all drivers to latest , and yes ,cold reboot next day and straight into Windows , the bsods are gone................ ( What a pain if we have to do this all over again twice a year ..................)
