CrAKeN
Microsoft Edge still very far behind its rivals Microsoft is promoting Edge browser quite aggressively, with ads on the desktop and popups that show up every once in a while, but this doesn’t necessarily mean adoption is growing. The latest round of statistics from NetMarketShare shows that Edge is actually stagnating or improving slightly, while Google Chrome, which is currently the number one browser on the desktop, keeps growing at a much faster pace. Data for the month of March 2018 indicates that Google Chrome is the top browser on PCs with a share of 58.64 percent, while Internet Explorer continues to be the runner-up with 18.95 percent. Even though it still receives security updates, Internet Explorer is more or less an obsolete browser, as no new features are being developed. Microsoft is all-in on improving Edge browser in Windows 10, so Internet Explorer is only maintained with security patches to keep users secure. Firefox is the third choice on the desktop with 11.79 percent, while Microsoft Edge is next with only 5.61 percent. The only thing Edge should be proud of is that it has more users than Safari (3.37 percent) and Opera (1.18 percent), but this is mostly happening because it’s the default browser in Windows 10 and some users stick with it to avoid installing third-party apps. The Microsoft Edge struggle Microsoft Edge, however, is either growing slowly or not growing at all, and the last few months brought only small changes for its market share. For example, Edge dropped from 5.26 percent to 5.21 percent in November, but then improved gradually to 5.61 percent in March. Last month, it only experienced a 0.06 percent increase. Edge adoption is obviously impacted by the limited availability in Windows 10, so its market share can only increase when Windows 10 itself improves as well. In the last few months, however, Windows 10 adoption also slowed down, so Edge’s struggle is a direct consequence. Microsoft Edge is expected to benefit from better adoption after the release of the Creators Update this month, as this OS update brings several new features, including tab previews, options to set tabs aside, and new security tools such as Flash Player click-to-run controls. vitorio
I will use it but it is not available for Windows 7. Right now my default browser is IE11. Of course I also use the others browsers when needed. My second choice is Chrome or Opera and Safari for my IPad. Second choice for my IPad is Chrome. steven36
More Softpedia FUD always fun too look at all the news that has no substance because IE came up in 2nd place at netmarketshare and all Edge is a fork of IE that's only in Windows 10 and people on windows 10 have a choice too use IE 11 Or Edge . If Windows 10 had 52% of the market like Google Chrome does spread out over all platforms. and Firefox came out ahead of IE 11 that would be something It took Goggle Chrome 7 years to pass IE and EDGE is less than 2 years old Microsoft can always make another browser and still make windows 10 but if Mozilla drops Firefox for a new Browser like they did Netscape back in the 1st browser wars its dead just like Mozilla's OS is dead . It may be as dead as opera soon anyways and they will try something new

Actually, many of those 5.2% users of Edge... don't care and don't even know they are using Edge. The logo used by Edge is quite similar to that of Internet Esplorer, so some users of Windows 10 believe IT IS Windows Explorer. Other Edge users have realised that it is something different, would prefer IE11 but... don't know that IE11 is still there, somehow "hidden". Many Windows 10 users even believe Internet Explored was removed definitively by Microsoft and it's a "revelation" for them to learn that it is still there.. Nothing have changed since May , 2016 When Chrome passed IE for the 1st time .All businesses use IE and Chrome regardless of what flavor of windows. Big Enterprises use IE because of it's long time service . The reason I dropped IE years ago was because they didnt have adblockers without paying and addons and things and you could catch malware from ads but Big Enterprises there more worried about a browser being stable and getting work done as fast as possible than anything . A bunch of noob home users that dont how too find there way around a new OS cant be compared to the highly trained ITs that most businesses use . The reason IE was put in Windows 10 was because of Big Enterprises who spend so much Money with Microsoft. The bottom line is 57.4 percent of desktop users are selling there data to Fortune 500 companies regardless if they choose Google or Microsoft and then the scream there ISP does it while on Google Chrome .. Yes it sucks because it;s a cross platform browser that can be installed on mobile too but Windows Phones sucked too and that what Edge is is a darn Microsoft phone app that's been ported to other phone platforms it dont live in the Win 32 subsystem . Just like the rest of the apps in the store suck who wants phone apps on PC ? The difference is IE is a Desktop browser and Chrome , Firefox etc Desktop browsers are Win 32 subsystem and Edge is a outcast living in the Universal Windows Platform (UWP). I wish they would let me uninstall it too like they do the most of the Universal Windows Platform programs i can force uninstall it but its very easy to block with a firewall and process lasso so I dont bother too fudge up my system. The only way i would want store apps is 1. If they made something better than the Win 32 subsystem has to offer. 2. If they didn't require a Microsoft account to install if not preinstalled on Windows 10 3. There no were close too this yet. 4. UWP is a good idea but it has too much restrictions on it that they never been able too sell the idea to very many 3rd party vendors yet . On GNU+Linux I can use Platforms like it with no restrictions and the apps work the same as if I was too install them another way.
mantazzo
Talking about Google Chrome, it is a problematical situation (sort of). Like for example, I currently test one website (w/ features like uploading for example) which is currently in "kinda-closed" beta, and I wanted to upload a small file - turns out I couldn't do anything with Firefox or Edge (since I mainly use FF, and Edge is that backup browser), and I actually needed to download Chrome to do the file upload... (That's bad programming IMO - if this uploading problem would only happen in "internal beta" or whatever, then yes, I'd be okay with this.) Now I'm forced to use Chrome, because "most of the current (other version, not beta) users use Chrome so use Chrome to do stuff". I guess this kinda falls into discussion why Chrome is dominant now...
