Microsoft Killing Off Its Biggest Flop in History and the World's Ready for It

Windows Vista market share is dropping every month

Microsoft will discontinue Windows Vista on April 11, and this is undoubtedly a critical moment not only for the company itself but also for its users, as systems that continue running the operating system will no longer receive security patches and fixes.

This means they remain exposed to attacks targeting unpatched vulnerabilities, and this should become a common thing given the fact that most vulnerabilities exist in the majority of Windows versions.

But as far as Windows Vista is concerned, new statistics provided by NetMarketShare indicate that the world is finally ready to give up on what's arguably Redmond's biggest flop in history. Only 0.72 percent of users are running Vista at this point, and with about 10 days left to upgrade, there's a good chance that more of them would jump ship as well as soon as possible.

Windows Vista has never been a successful product and that makes Microsoft's job substantially easier, with only a few users to actually be impacted by the end of support.

Just upgrade and you're fine

Unlike the retirement of Windows XP, when nearly 25 percent of systems were still powered by Windows XP, giving up on Windows Vista should be a smooth transition, though there's no doubt additional security measures need to be put in place on PCs that are yet to upgrade before the April 11 target date.

Windows Vista users who, for some reason or another, can't upgrade in the coming weeks are recommended to start planning the move to a newer operating system as soon as possible, as the number of attacks aimed at their systems is likely to grow.

Microsoft will also offer custom support to companies willing to pay for updates and security patches until the upgrade is complete, but for home users transitioning to a new operating system is the only way to go.

Without an Internet connection, a Windows Vista system is less exposed to attacks, though there's no doubt that sooner or later giving up on this old platform and switching to Windows 10 is the right long-term investment.

windows ME was the biggest micro$oft flop

Windows ME sucked but they made money from selling it anyway  they sold a lot of PCs with it to home users  the biggest flop was Windows Phone they lost 11  billion on it   , Windows Vista paved the the way for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 it was a much needed part of Microsoft history. unless you're still stuck on XP lol.. Windows 98 SE made Microsoft the most money  back in the 90s they use to be the most richest company.  Apple took that top spot in 2012  and Google took it from apple

Bill Gates may be the worlds richest man again but he left Microsoft along time ago and sold off a lot of his stock in the company .

Windows Vista (with approximately 400 million Internet users) was the second most widely used operating system on the Internet with an approximately 19% market share, the most widely used being Windows XP with an approximately 63% market share. In May 2010, Windows Vista's market share had an estimated range from 15% to 26%.On 22 October 2010, Microsoft ceased sales of retail copies of Windows Vista, and the OEM sales for Vista ceased a year later

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Vista

They swore  back in 2012  that another flop like Windows vista  would kill the company  but that already came and went  .

http://paulwallbank.com/2012/07/06/how-much-did-vista-really-cost-microsoft/

Windows 8x is a bigger Flop than vista was Windows 8.1 peeked June 2015  11.16% share in May and drooped off even lower every since

http://www.windowscentral.com/new-os-market-share-data-hints-windows-81-could-take-second-place-over-xp-next-month

in July 2015 we seen windows 8.1 fate that  it was a bigger flop than Vista

https://venturebeat.com/2015/07/01/windows-7-passes-60-market-share-ahead-of-windows-10s-debut/

Now Windows 10 fate is in the hands of  Microsoft if they decided to make Windows 11 or 12 or whatever to replace it ..it would rank up there with Vista because it only has like 400 million users like Vista did when Microsoft decided too Make windows 7 . The reason Vista didn't ever  succeed Microsoft pulled the plug on it to make Vista sp4 aka Windows 7 sp1 ..  The smartest thing Microsoft could do is just Make one OS like they claim Windows 10 will be like and the debate will be over by 2020 lol.

We need to rename Windows 8.1 the OS for Haters the  6.66 % who are grasping for straws tell 2023 Lets see what it's worth once its 10 years old  :P

I only know ONE Vista user. Is just the opinion of one particular user and I don't mean to generalize it. Asked him how he felt about Microsoft discontinuing support for Vista. He told me, that he was completly indifferent to it! His Vista has been working fine since he bought the computer about 8 years ago and he is not going to change his computer. I tolf him that he could update to Windows 7 and he answered: WHY UPDATE if Vista works fine? Also, he gave me the example of Windows XP: he knows a lot of people still using XP, when support was discontinued 3 years ago and of course, their Windows XP is still running.

I agree windows phone takes the cake, but not a desktop OS,but nevertheless

imo,windows 98se was the best

and when money becomes a secondary thing ,it doesn't matter anymore

Vista become relatively solid after SP2. The issue was that when it was first released, most people's hardware was not ready to handle it.
