Project Argus is a recently released Microsoft Outlook plugin that lets users easily report suspicious or phishing emails to their incident response team.

Developed by Snow Offensive Security, Project Argus adds a button to the Outlook ribbon UI, which, when pressed, takes the currently open email and forwards it to a pre-configured email address, usually belonging to the company's incident response team, system administrator, or any other security personnel.

Snow Offensive Security is not open-sourcing the plugin, but it is making it available for free.

When downloading the plugin, users must enter the email address to which they should forward emails and the subject line. Snow Offensive Security says this information will be used to compile the Project Argus plugin on a per-download basis.

Project Argus works with Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013, and Outlook 2016, and it requires the user to run Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 or higher.

The concept behind Project Argus is not new. Last year, in the span of one week, two different Outlook plugins were also released. One is PhishReporter from Josh Rickard, a security analyst at the University of Missouri, and the second is Phish Alert from cyber-security vendor KnowBe4.

The name of Project Argus comes from Greek mythological figure Argus Panoptes, the "all-seeing" giant that had his body covered with one hundred eyes.
