Messaging Everywhere was one very exciting feature of Windows 10 Anniversary Update, as it allowed users to send and reply to SMS messages from their PCs, but Microsoft decided to pull it at the very last minute and start working on similar functionality for Skype.

Everyone believed that Messaging Everywhere was discontinued, but a recent leak coming via the Twitter account Core Insider Program shows that this feature might still have a future in Microsoft’s vision.

Specifically, Messaging Everywhere was spotted in an early build of Windows 10 Mobile Redstone 2, the next update that comes for mobile devices in spring 2017 (theoretically, since Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update is not out yet, Redstone 2 is the next-next update for the platform).

For the moment, however, while this is exciting news for users of Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10, it’s not yet clear if Microsoft is indeed planning to bring Messaging Everywhere back to devices in Redstone 2, so take this screenshot as an unconfirmed report.

Microsoft: Messaging Everywhere is gone

Microsoft announced earlier this year that Messaging Everywhere was discontinued, and similar functionality was being developed for the universal app version of Skype available on all Windows 10 devices.

“The experience was well-received by Insiders however we believe we can deliver an even better experience through the Skype app. Because of this, we decided not to release this feature as part of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update this summer. Starting with Build 14376 and going forward, Insiders will no longer have the ability to reply to text messages from their phone via the Messaging app on their PCs,” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, said in June.

Windows 10 Redstone 2 is projected to launch in spring 2017 with more exciting updates for mobile devices, so who knows, maybe Messaging Everywhere is making a comeback, and this is one of the surprises that Microsoft is preparing for those who stick with Windows 10 Mobile until that point.

So I don't get it. I don't get Microshart and Windows 10 at all. First they wanted to keep the app, then they remove it at the last minute, and now they are considering bringing it back on the next service pack update? But won't thank mean all the users will switch to something else in the meantime (1 year or more) and not bother going back to it? 

 

Makes no sense if you ask me. LOL. They really cannot decide what they want to do with this O/S anymore. Keep it? Delete it? Bring it back? Make it free? Make it subscription. Steven36 is right, pretty soon people will go Linux or Mac O/S if this keeps up. LOL LOL

The way I see it, after years of selling Microsoft stuff, the Microsoft company is now running with it's head in the clouds, completely disconnected from it's users, like gods who know best for everybody.

 

Guess what? People in IT everywhere (you know, those who sell your stuff to management?) are fed up with your disregard to IT needs. Nobody wants your "tablet" OS. We loved Windows 7, you messed it up to make the Windows 8 tablet OS, and tried to agressively dump Windows 10 onto unsuspecting beta testers customers. Heck, marketing inspired itself from Malware or what?

 

Microsoft, just buy a clue. Hostages to your marketing will revolt. It has started. Just read on the 'net, I read here.
