Batu69
Look how easy it is to build the UAC dialog interface The Windows 10 UAC "designing process" Windows 10 comes with a generally improved look, although we all know that it’s not entirely everyone’s cup of tea, especially because of the fully flat interface that doesn’t align with the Aero design that all users seemed to love. And the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update goes even one step further in this direction and changes the UI of the User Account Control screen, bringing it in line with the rest of the operating system. Opinions on how it looks have been mixed so far, with some people saying that Microsoft wasn’t actually interested in making these dialogs look good, but rather focused on making them work correctly. But as far as the interface is concerned, reddit user saltysamon has decided to do a little experiment and show how easy it actually is to create the UAC interface in nothing else than Paint, Microsoft’s own old-school drawing app that’s been around for so long. Designed in just 10 minutes And it turns out that it’s not at all difficult because, as he puts it, 10 minutes were enough to create the exact same dialog - and you can see the whole “designing” process in the video below. Without a doubt, it was clearly just a matter of time until jokes like the ones below showed up (also posted on reddit in the same discussion as the said video): “Hello, I'm a totally legitimate Microsoft employment director, and I want you to work as a lead designer in our studio,” said one reddit user. “Any age restrictions? I have a 5-year-old son who is very good with crayons. Overqualified maybe?” another one replied. Certainly, this UAC screen does its job just like the one before it, but there still are users who expected more in terms of design. It remains to be seen if Microsoft wants to change anything in this regard in the future, but with the next Windows 10 update coming in spring 2017, the current design will be around for a while. Karlston
Just shows that copying is easy, the original designing is the hard bit. There was a joke about desktops in the 80's and 90's... Customer: What colour desktop case can I have? Salesman: Beige, you can have any colour case you want as long as it's beige. Modernised... Customer: What style of Windows 10 UI can I have? Salesman: Bland and boring, you can have any UI style you want as long as it's bland and boring.
heyyahblah
Honestly the UAC in the RS1 update is a complete joke. Not only is it ugly as shit, it takes up the entire screen. What was wrong with the UAC since W7 ... was their something wrong with it, that it needed to be changed? Hey RS1 ... your interface and your UAC prompt .... I only have one thing to say to you .... and that is ....
straycat19
They had to make it bland and boring. They didn't want you to get too excited so when you found out your software will no longer run or that it removed your favorite program or that you no longer had control of your own computer, you wouldn't be too let down since you already were disappointed with the interface. To fix the UAC box, wow. I never knew it was broken in the first place. Amazing. They are finding and fixing new BETA bugs every day. |God Damn, I am so impressed with the productivity at Microshart. Congrats on the UAC bug fix guys!!!

I was wondering what the politically correct term is for "Change for change's sake". In the next few years the UI gurus will declare that minimalism is old hat and (re)invent skewmorphism.
