Microsoft confirms two major updates planned for Windows 10 in 2017

As we've reported in the past, Microsoft is planning to return to a twice-a-year update cadence for Windows 10 in 2017, releasing two major updates similarly to the Threshold wave of updates released back in 2015. In a blog post on the Microsoft TechNet website, the company has confirmed these plans.

"Windows 10, version 1607 is our third Windows 10 feature update released. Based on feedback from organizations moving to Windows 10, this will be our last feature update for 2016, with two additional feature updates expected in 2017."

 

Windows Central understands that the first major update for 2017 (codenamed Redstone 2) will release in the early part of 2017. The second major update scheduled for 2017 is codenamed "Redstone 3", which I've heard is being targeted for a Summer 2017 launch.

 

This will leave around 4-6 months between Redstone 2 and Redstone 3, which is similar to the update pattern that the Threshold update wave followed. Redstone 3 will likely be a much smaller update compared to Redstone 2, much like Threshold 2 was to Threshold 1.

 

Microsoft is currently in the midst of Redstone 2 development, with the latest internal builds now being compiled around the 14900 range. It shouldn't be too long before Insiders begin receiving Redstone 2 bits for testing, as Microsoft is keen on getting the latest bits out for testing as soon as possible for maximum bug catching and feedback.

 

Of course, considering we're still several months away from any updates being ready for the public, schedules and timings could easily change. However, one thing is definitely clear; Microsoft wants two major updates out in 2017, which is great news for Insiders and consumers who want to stay updated with the latest features and enhancements from Microsoft.

Good move for 2016, stupid move for 2017 (read: two major feature upgrade). Such major upgrade can really bring nothing but trouble to IT pros, and software developers.

I had trouble with this update as well  i tired to update from a dvd  it was no go it got to about 20% and it rebooted back into TH2, so i done clean install and it worked So the next PC,  i just done a clean install i didn't bother trying to  upgrade .But some even if  they try to clean install it  ..It just freezes up . How do business suppose to adapt to something that require  a clean install or may not work at all 2 times a years?  There going to  have improve upgrading a whole lot in 2017 to ever sell people on Windows 10.

If it were not for software cracks ,  this site will be dead the very ones who are in charge of the post use to be the worlds worse at posting the same post . I spend time posting that post is because i found it interesting . I'm not interested  in seeing who post what news first. I will cease to contribute new post  at this site since they think they do better than  normal members here .

i'm sorry that it comes that way and you feel that way i always find your posts contributing and such and full of good information. with your high reputation and outstanding contribution maybe you should consider running for mod here then? you have good scores and rep and post a lot of good content before it comes out anywhere else first.

 

heck, someone made a thread like this one that you posted in tenforums and it was deleted within 20 minutes. LOL. I was laughing so hard. The fanboys at tenforums.com could not accept the fact RS1 broke a lot of machines again and they want to release 2 more service packs to correct the errors of this one.

 

It's like Windows XP with SP3 all over again, hahaha except Windows XP had a long amazing shelf life. Longer then VISTA and 8 and probably longer then 10 combined. haha.

 

I swear to you, if someone coded a DX12 patch for W7, you would see the usage jump up to 90% leaving 10 in the dust.

It was not very much different here now was it?  i post article about how RS1 broke a lot machines and the staff merged it on the fact that it had a little info to do with there  topic in it. I could of posted one a whole lot more harsher  than that but i  posted the nicest one  i can find because fanboys get  upset real easy

 

I will save them and me the trouble  if i dont post nothing new they dont have no control over me  .

Nope, that is why I like the article it was very good. you should have saved it. I didn't even get a chance to bookmark and my post got lost in the merge when I hit reply I was sad . You just posted truth on how RS1 did break a lot of machines it is truth.

 

I don't understand why fanboys get so upset when you speak truth about W10. It really make me angry at times. I mean stop acting like a child and that it is the best O/S. IT IS NOT THE BEST OS IN THE WORLD! MY GOD! It is not a total piece of shit.  But it is pretty broken on lots of things, still after RS1. It's like a brain damage child. Why cannot people accept TRUTH.

A lot of good that does here hitting report.  lol same reason i left these boards in 2011  and didn't come back tell 2014 a bunch of  volunteers trying to boss other volunteers around , out side of there domain they have no control over you what so ever they only dictate there own little site tell it ends up shunting down  They be on a power trip and abuse there title . I dont come on the internet to be bossed around by volunteers. if you want to boss me around you're going have to pay me. You can ban me if you wish, but  i will not take orders from people i dont get no benefit from doing so.  They wart to lose all there members they can ban us all , most the time it just cause 3 more to leave with them . I want  lose no sleep over it

 

You do know even posting news on these sites were risking our butt ? copying anything without a sites  permission is not legal. So really you would do me a favor if you ban me and deleted all my post you would not be hurting me  . And if you' move my post when there not the same i will not risk my butt for you people anymore. Back when i  use   too upload and left these kind of sites . i deleted 1000s of my own files  from my own accounts i could care less. i  got fed up of trying to make leechers and complainers happy for a thank you post . Then sites even started removing what little reward we got for it even by banning thank you post !
