Lightweight ad blocker uBlock Origin ported to Microsoft Edge

uBlock Origin is a lightweight ad blocker that consumes fewer system resources than the likes of Adblock Plus. The open-source ad blocker is officially available as an extension for Chromium and Firefox, but a New Zealand-based web developer has ported the extension for Microsoft Edge.

 

Nik Rolls has forked the project on GitHub, and a working prototype of the extension is now available for download as a .zip file for those on the Edge Preview. Interested in taking a look? Here's how you sideload the extension on Edge:

• Download the .zip file and extract it to a folder.
• Enter about:flags in Edge's address bar, and toggle Enable extension developer features.
• From the Extensions menu, click on the Load extension button and select the folder where you extracted the .zip file.

 

Here's a list of issues that are yet to be fixed, per Nik:

• Downloads (settings backups, etc). Edge doesn't allow downloads from extensions yet, or I've not found the way. I'm working on it but if it's not supported then I may be blocked.
• Updating lists: unfortunately this is a big one. You currently can't download updates and are stuck with the ones in the current build, which is a very small subset of the full database. This is my top priority to fix.
• Possibly other functionality that I haven't been able to verify yet; this is very experimental!

Edge will disable sideloaded extensions every time you exit the browser, so you'll have to re-enable manually. The extension is still in a pre-release stage, so you're bound to encounter bugs. If you have any questions or suggestions for the developer, shout out in the comments.

maybe it's only for Insiders version of Edge, I don't see any way to toggle Enable extension develoer features in about:flags !

Why bother useless they gave you permission ?  Like i said from the beginning once Edge gets extensions  they all will have too be approved by Microsoft .  Seems Microsoft is more worried about battery life than extensions if they don't have a way yet for the devs to sign up for approval of there extensions.  uBlock Origin is popular at Firefox  and Chrome it should be easily approved  .Even it did I'm still not going to use it . It has a whole lot more problems than no extensions. Even if it had as many users as Google chrome i still wouldn't.  I never even used Google chrome for anything more than testing even .

I think if they fired the devs from edge team and hired some from firefox, opera, and chrome we could have a product for the people but F no they like to screw the public but wont matter the way USA is head only matter of time before A. World War 3 or B. Civil War, or C. Martial Law to follow riots and chaos and the police shootings either way the world will be affected by this the empire is falling just like Rome in similar ways sex drugs and corruption not to mention slavery who can survive on 15 an hour let alone minimum wage after all school debts home debts credit debts and as the country bankrupts itself we are headed like Greece where all the money in the country will be seized bank accounts emptied. None of these are good out comes and there really isn't an alternative to it being that the Government alone is the problem they are 17 trillion in debt yet they sold our debt the public debt to China and Japan equaling under 3 trillion so the public isn't really in debt that is less then China's debt but there are laws that are constantly being broken or rewritten to service the elites probably to intentially create war for them to sit back and watch from their jets, helicopters and sky scrappers world wide. Just seems all to well planned and the media spin on everything along with Hillary Criminal Clinton getting away with lying to the public on video UNDER OATH let alone all the other bs she has done and her husband. Everything is lied and manipulated about to create fear and chaos and it is clearly working. I was just looking at the USA debt it s somewhere upwards of 22.5 trillion as of date and public debt some how has climbed from 3 trillion to 13 trillion yet 9/10/2001 Rumsfeild announced the US government and Military lost 2.6 trillion when the real numbers is actually closer to 4.2 trillion and boom 9/11 happened and no one talks about that 4.2 trillion stolen from the US public.
