Windows 10 Gets Update to Turn Any Video Into Slow Motion

The update is only available on Insider machines, though

Microsoft has released an update for PCs running Windows 10 insider preview builds that makes it possible for the Photos app to convert any video into a slow motion clip with the press of a button.

What’s important to note is that this isn’t related to the Camera app, so what this feature does is to process and edit the existing videos that are already saved on the local drives by turning them into slow motion clips. The Camera app can already record videos in slow motion, and this is quite a neat future especially on mobile devices, so this new update only makes it possible to turn your regular videos into slow motion easily.

The result, however, isn’t really the best we’ve seen, pretty much because this is a completely different thing from shooting videos in slow motion in the first place.

Not as smooth as a slow motion video

It’s all related to the FPS, as videos that you record in slow motion are usually 120 FPS (or anywhere close to that) while a traditional video has half of that or even fewer frames per second. This means that if you render a slow motion clip from a video recorded at 30 FPS, you can actually see each frame transition, and the playback isn’t the smoothest you’d expect.

Regardless of that, this is a helpful addition to Windows 10’s feature lineup, so we’re looking forward to getting it on all systems, including those that aren’t running preview builds. This could happen when the Anniversary Update launches on August 2, as Microsoft is now working to get this release ready and prepare it for retail users.

Many other features will be included in the Anniversary Update as well, including here a revamped Start menu, improved Cortana, overhauled Action Center, Microsoft Edge extensions, and support for gesture navigation support on Windows 10 Mobile devices.

According to Wikipedia :

Quote

Slow motion (commonly abbreviated as slowmo) is an effect in film-making whereby time appears to be slowed down. It was invented by the Austrian priest August Musger in the early 20th century.

Typically this style is achieved when each film frame is captured at a rate much faster than it will be played back. When replayed at normal speed, time appears to be moving more slowly. A term for creating slow motion film is overcranking which refers to hand cranking an early camera at a faster rate than normal (i.e. faster than 24 frames per second).

Slow motion can also be achieved by playing normally recorded footage at a slower speed. This technique is more often applied to video subjected to instant replay than to film.

A third technique that is becoming common using current computer software post-processing (with programs like Twixtor) is to fabricate digitally interpolated frames to smoothly transition between the frames that were actually shot.

Motion can be slowed further by combining techniques, interpolating between overcranked frames. The traditional method for achieving super-slow motion is through high-speed photography, a more sophisticated technique that uses specialized equipment to record fast phenomena, usually for scientific applications.

I also said upgrade, not update oO

yeah it doesn't work good, just use it to connect your Win 7 key to Win 10 and then clean install Win 10 using ISO. you can grab the latest Win 10 ISO now and when the Redstone update comes just in-place upgrade to it, it works perfect among Win 10 versions.

No, no @saeed_dc , you misunderstood my intention.

I meant I did UPGRADE (shift from W7 to W10) ,  and not just an UPDATE from one W10 build to another.

..........................................................................................

Thanks for your suggestions.

Unfortunately - upon upgrading - I wasn't aware that I had only a short time for saving  Install.esd file; actually BEFORE a real upgrading process was launched.  When I started to look for it AFTER upgrade has been finished - the file was already gone.

Since it's only 2 weeks till the Redstone upgrade is available - I decided to be patient and wait.  It was my first (and not voluntary) in-place upgrade and I don't want next one anytime soon.  :)  :P

BTW

Found this trick to avoid full in-place upgrade using GenuineTicket.xml  - too late unfortunately :

I understood your intention correctly the first time..omg! don't need to repeat it again and again..

that was so unfortunate xD hope next time everything go according to your plan. at least you're not blaming Microsoft for this ;)

thanks for the trick, but for us pirates it all takes few seconds to go from non-genuine to full-genuine^^

Have been always using LEGIT OSes, so I'm a real n00b as to how to activate pirate Windows.

I'm too busy right now to go through all the details in long KMS thread myself.

That's why I need a little help with activating my "slim" version of Win.10 installed in VM.

@saeed_dc  Would you mind offering me some assistance in this matter via PM or TV ?  :P

Confirming the fact.  :hehe:   That "unknown reason" is ....  100% full inbox !

It's m way of keeping spammers, haters & all other abusers away from my PM, while those who have open threads in my inbox can contact me freely any time. Works great.  :P

But  @saeed_dc , wait a moment.   I'll send you a PM as quickly as I free some inbox space for you..

I hope we could work on the activation problem tomorrow.  Good night, by now.

[ EDIT : ]

PM sent.   :D
