I dont care that you hate Windows 10  or not , you claim you're and  IT at schools

I never claimed to be an IT at schools and in fact I am not. I know a lot about universities, I have a lot of friends who are in IT at universities and I have been involved in many computer investigations at universities as a computer forensic investigator and expert witness.  As far as them having to move from Windows 7, they are looking at that, possibly going to Win 8.1 or linux.  Many universities now have software that is web based on the client side so the OS is no longer an issue.  They can run Linux and reduce their operating system costs immensely and some have even tested Android systems.  If the number of actual computer systems can be reduced to two or three per department and everyone else using a tablet with keyboard, they could easily save $6-10 million a year.  In that environment it is money that matters most because a state supported university only receives money for those students who enroll as freshmen and then graduate in four years.  Transfers, 5th year seniors, and distance learning students are not counted and the university receives no compensation.  In reality, they don't HAVE to do anything.  I have seen modern robotics systems used in manufacturing that are still running on Windows 98 and science research equipment that will only run from a computer with a PCMCIA card and Windows 98.  That doesn't mean the equipment is outdated or obsolete if it still does what it was bought to do. All anyone has to do is die, everything else has an option.

I dont read no one is headed toward Windows 8.1 most everyone that was on it left it. and business hated it.  Windows 8.1  not selling was why they had a free promotion .. Windows 10 is way above it in the marketshare? I know business is  slow  to adapt .  Even the Government is The Army , NSA ,  and other DOD actors  is replacing what they have with Windows 10 even. The NSA  is USA intelligence full of top secrets and they trust it . So if our military and spies trust it ,it shows that  most people are just paranoid about the unknown and there's nothing wrong with it. really There going to use it  to protect the USA even.

 Anyways ....

My W7 Windows Update got finally fixed after installing KB3161608, so now I'm ready to upgrade (just to obtain digital entitlement for free).   Started downloading Win 10 files early morning today.   :D

As to the question : whether people should upgrade or not - my answer would be :

IT DEPENDS on whether they currently run legit or hacked version of W7/8/8.1.

If they run legit OS -

missing a free upgrade offer seems really silly, especially that one can revert to their old OS version right after obtaining W10 digital entitlement.

As to those who run cracked OS version -

well .... they are really free !   MS has "0" power over them.

They can upgrade/downgrade their systems anytime they want anyway.

So should they simply stick to their INDIVIDUAL decisions and keep using what works for them best.

My own plans ?

Personally, I'm going to reverse to W7,  after upgrading and getting my W10 digital "license".

Nevertheless I'm going to clean install W10 Redstone on other HDD too and use it in dual boot with my old W7 (there are no W10 drivers for a scanner/printer I use).

"I get really, really tired of those who think their decision is the only right one for everyone."

I foam at the mouth for a chance to test various operating systems on multiple platforms.

So far I tested Android, Apple, Linux / UNIX & Windows operating systems.

Steven36 is usually quite sensible, but when he says, "Still there's millions  of people on XP but if they tried compile a program for any pcs i had since 2011 they dont work if not built on x64 VM  and even when i was still pn XP sp3, people who made things on SP2 would not work," he's talking nonsense. Of all the software I use, in exactly two cases, the latest version is not supported by XP...but in both cases the last version that is supported is perfectly satisfactory. Of course, as time goes by, more "latest versions" will not be supported, but the XP user can continue forever to use the latest supported version. (And newest is not necessarily best. In some cases, I don't use the latest version, even though it is supported, because I don't like it as well as an earlier version.)

Surely it is better to upgrade it even if you don't want it. Then roll it back. That way you have a registered Win10 installation with Micro$oft. Then, if you change your mind in the future you, can still upgrade for free as your installation is already registered.

Perfectly sensible, NickH, unless you like to control your own computer, rather than letting Micro$oft have the reins.

Win10, assuming you have a non system partition with about 22gb free space... simple to dual boot it... just fresh install it to a partition so it gets the motherboard forever activated supposedly ... then delete it or never use it.      I just did that and it didn't even delete any of the other folders/files in the partition.

I't's fact  you cant make x64 programs on  x86 and most every on XP used x86  XP x64 never was used much. and  it's also a fact you cant debug programs to work on newer versions  of windows on older versions of windows . Rule of thumb if something works for you on the latest windows it works for everyone .

What i  dislike about windows is the fact  there's still to many x86 programs and now days most everyone  who bought pcs in the last 10 years has x64 .On Linux most programs for x64 O/S are native x64 they still make x86 programs  but there only for people with legacy hardware .  So to test software correct on windows is almost imposable without setting up multiple vms or pcs now days .

U P D A T E  :

In fact I expected in-place upgraded system and all moved programs to be a kind of mess.

But it didn't happen in most cases, although I had to reinstall a few apps.

Therefore I eventually decided to give up rolling back to Win.7.  :)

Waiting now for Anniversary Update ISO. When available I'm going to clean install W10.

As to W7 - I'll be clean installing it W7 on the other HDD (in dual boot).
