steven36
Should I upgrade to Windows 10?” is a question being asked by more than one computer user in recent days. Microsoft reports that, one year after being unleashed upon the world, users wishing to upgrade or purchase new Windows 10 licenses will have to pay $119 and has strongly encouraged users of Windows 7 and 8.1 to consider the upgrade. July 29 is the final day when users may upgrade to Windows 10 for free with Microsoft. Two days after Windows 10 was introduced, The Inquisitr reported that 14 million copies of Windows 10 had been installed. Microsoft reports that 300 million machines were running Windows 10 as of March, 2016. Should users upgrade to Windows 10? YouTube user ThioJoeTech has weighed in on this subject. He cautions that users with older computers, particularly those running XP, Vista, or earlier versions probably won’t be able to upgrade to Windows 10 and may be better off buying new computers or other devices. Joe notes that a small percentage of Windows 8 users may prefer its interface, and he encourages the group to continue with what works for them. He explains that some users of Windows Media Center have been disappointed that the app is not available for Windows 10. How To Geek has reported on its “not officially supported by Microsoft” technique to install Windows Media Center on Windows 10 that might be helpful to those who use the app and want to make the switch. The YouTuber describes Microsoft giving Windows 10 away for one year as a “big deal” and states that the company has always charged for upgrades to previous versions of Windows. Joe also explains that customers who claim their free Windows 10 upgrade before the July 29 end date will receive updates and support “forever.” With Windows 10 is said to come a whole new set of drivers, offering support to a wider range of devices. Windows 10 is described as running “faster” than Windows 7; uncommon for later versions of any type of software, let alone an operating system. Most machines running Windows 7 and 8.1 should experience no significant slowdown when upgraded to Windows 10. In fact, some machines may even see an improvement in performance. Windows 10 includes Windows Defender, which is one of the best computer security programs available. Windows Defender provides complete protection against viruses, malware, and spyware. It also comes with free regular updates with the Windows 10 upgrade, available until the end date, July 29. Windows Defender solving previously unknown malware problems is part of the reason that Windows 10 speeds up some computers. The other is that it appears to be a well written and efficient piece of software. A Windows 10 feature that has appealed to some is the virtual desktop, which allows for customization and saving of specialized desktops for different tasks. Windows 10 also makes use of underlying DirectX 12 technology, said to be responsible for performance increases of up to 50 percent with some graphics intensive applications like games, as reported by PC World. Edge, Microsoft’s latest browser that comes bundled with Windows 10, has seen a marked increase in usage. In March of 2016, Edge users were reported to have spent 63 billion minutes viewing web pages, a 50 percent increase on a quarter over quarter basis. It has been previously reported by The Inquisitr that Edge lacks the ability to work with browser extensions, but that Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome work perfectly with Windows 10, allowing users access to this feature. Windows 10 is the home of Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual personal assistant, comparable to Apple’s Siri. Since being introduced, Microsoft reports that Cortana has responded to six billion questions. Further, Windows 10 incorporates biometric authentication, allowing users with the need the ability for fingerprint and face identification using the Windows Hello app. Have you already downloaded the latest Windows? Should others upgrade to Windows 10? If you haven’t already, are you going to upgrade to Windows 10 before the July 29 deadline? It just depends, if the horse cant plow a filed or if something is wrong with it were you cant ride it , It's just going cost you money to feed it and be better off getting rid of it. I dont recommend everyone to upgrade to windows 10 unless they want too . They can wait tell they buy a new PC. They can also test it out and see how it runs on there old hardware . My newest PC runs better with windows 10 than Windows 8.1 but my older pc that came with Windows 8 dont do no better , maybe even worse , so i may just put linux back on that one. DogDays
That's the $120 question should I say or should I go. As we speak I building a custom win 10 pro DVD. I'am going to pop in a new hard drive and do a clean install. That way if it doesn't work out format C: put my win 8.1 SSD back in and away we go.This way no harm done. If it works out and can be tamed I'll install on the rest of the family computers. PS Thanks steven36 for the Heads-Up

Kalju
If is granted, it must also be taken. But if it's not good, you do not need to use it. Also, you can always make gifts to Microsoft (sponsor) and buy... Anyone needs sponsors in difficult times.
dMog
yes, steven you should but my guess is you won't... you have a blind hatred towards 10 and even if you did upgrade, you would find or rather make up reasons as to why you made a huge mistake doing so...you know i speak the truth your posts since windows 10 was announced as free upgrades to current users of microsoft was announced.... no bad on you for choosing that but please .... don't pretend ortherwise

Also the additional reported Win 10 quirks always left me sceptical about Microsoft's newest OS. I'm only comfortable with Win 10 after stripping the ISO to it's bare essentials & rebuiding the ISO before installation.

I just posted post that told the other side of the story . because I think it needed told too...Now were in the last days of it being free and everyone needs to decide . Because i doubt they ever do this again anytime soon. Most of those negative post about windows 10 were written by windows 10 users..So when you call me out i take it as a personal attack .Even though I never done nothing too you. You dont know shit about me i have a m8 who runs a windows site that is always about the current version of windows i could join and become a vip or mod if i wanted , but i dont have time for this. I tested software for windows and helped out the forum communities for many years problem solving so i take you're post as a sign of disrespect . What have you done as a forum contributor ? I'm pro choice , I believe in you're right too use what you want and people not to try to force something on you I been using Windows since 2001 and no one needed to make a choice about what version I use and there not going to start now. Example 10 reasons you should upgrade to Windows 10 http://www.infoworld.com/article/2954263/microsoft-windows/10-reasons-you-should-upgrade-to-windows-10.html 10 reasons you shouldn't upgrade to Windows 10 http://www.infoworld.com/article/2972298/microsoft-windows/10-reasons-you-shouldnt-upgrade-to-windows-10.html A lot of it was posted on fear of the unknown though and XP users said the same thing about Windows Vista and Windows 7 but the same people who are holding on to Windows 7 for dear life were the same ones who claimed they never stop using XP . So it's nothing new but the fact it was free caused a uproar more than if you had to pay for it.
straycat19
I HATE WINDOWS 10! and here's why.... 1. There has not been a stable version released yet and never will be....it is nothing but betas (one beta release after another) and users are the test group. I am not Microsoft's beta tester because they don't pay me to be one. (Apple gives away it's OSX and though it has updates they aren't as numerous or as intrusive as Microsofts. I only own one Apple laptop and a couple hackintoshes that I put together for fun, so I am not a MAC head.) 2. Cumulative updates are forced on the users, it is all or none, and again they cause more problems than they solve because they have not been thoroughly tested. 3. Metadata collection aside, Microsoft has stated, and implemented, that they will remove anything THEY want to remove from your computer. So your computer really isn't yours anymore, you gave it to Microsoft. 4. I am a windows hacker (I have been running windows since version 1.03 on a Zenith 8086) and I like to tweak my own operating systems and I don't want Microsoft dictating how my systems work or undoing tweaks I make to my system. Nor do I want to keep redoing the tweaks because something they do undoes them. 5. I can and am buying the fastest new systems available with Windows 7 and 8.1 from the manufacturers and building high end systems also that will probably last me the rest of my lifetime without ever having to install Windows 10 or any other Windows OS. They do what I want, when I want, and how I want. I also don't install any updates after Jun 2015 since systems that I stopped updating then have been thoroughly stable and secure. You can stay stuck in the past like the XP crowed at home , witch people testing on x86 XP became not interesting to me way back in 2011, because most of there crap would not even work for me no longer. I already know windows 7 like the back of my hand and i got board of it in 2014. , Sooner or latter Windows 7 will be yesterdays news around 2018 or 2019 when it fixes to run out of updates. Still there's millions of people on XP but if they tried compile a program for any pcs i had since 2011 they dont work if not built on x64 VM and even when i was still pn XP sp3, people who made things on SP2 would not work. Karlston
Sigh... to all those saying everybody should upgrade to Windows 10, and anyone who doesn't is either a hater, a Luddite, has a fear of technology, stuck in the past, or doesn't know any better... A friend runs a small home business and uses a custom made application, essential for his business to function. This application runs fine in Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, but does NOT work in Windows 10. Should he... Upgrade to Windows 10 anyway and take comfort in having the latest/greatest OS while watching his small business (and livelihood) go down the toilet? Spend thousands on buying or getting a new application written that works in Windows 10? Do nothing, spend nothing, and keep happily using Windows 7 and running his business? I get really, really tired of those who think their decision is the only right one for everyone. Would they please post their right clothing, hairstyle, car, home decor, appliance, TV programs, movies, music etc choices for the rest of us so we can all change our wrong choices and become right! The world is grey, not black or white!

I'm just not going to find you're post useful anymore . I will ether be on the newest windows or Linux and not Windows 7 anymore . I done seen XP die a slow creeping death and i'ts zombies are still around. I get tired of people holding contempt against things they never tired before, but guess what in the end it's no ones loss but you're own . Nov 2016 there not going sell Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 and if you ever plain too buy a new PC, it will come with windows 10 or whatever., It's a free gift you can install it and roll back to what you're using now to get in on it . not doing it is just silly I'm a software tester and to stay up with technology, i must have a PC with the latest windows.
