New Insider build available for the fast ring

Microsoft has rolled out the eagerly awaited Windows 10 Mobile build 14322, introducing a huge number of improvements, many of which we’ve already seen in leaked screenshots.

First of all, it needs to be mentioned that build 14322 is only available for the fast ring and can only be installed on devices that are running Windows 10 Mobile (and this includes models that either shipped with the operating system or received the upgrade from Windows Phone).

New features

One of the most important changes in this build is the addition of some visual changes to the Action Center, as notifications will now be grouped by app for better organization. Microsoft says that this feature has been implemented specifically to get more space in the Action Center in order to show more content.

Notifications have also been improved, so they’ll now display larger images, as they can have what Microsoft calls hero images “to make content pop even more.”

Cortana notifications also show up in the Action Center whereas users are allowed to prioritize notifications with three different levels (normal, high, or top) and adjust how many notifications are visible per app. Options to customize the quick actions in the Action Center have also been added.

Cortana has obviously received improvements too, getting new options to create a photo reminder by simply taking a picture of something and have the personal assistant fill in the details.

Better Settings organization

The Settings app now comes with icons for each category, and this really looks neat, making it easier to find the configuration options you are looking for, while the Glance screen settings have been moved to Settings > Personalization > Glance screen. There’s also a new menu that allows you to configure navigation bar settings.

Windows Update comes with active hours and custom restart time, just like on PCs, so you can configure when you want the device to install updates.

Updated emoji are also part of the new release, and so are some Microsoft Edge improvements, such as better copy/paste and enhanced tab behavior - if you tap a link that opens a new tab, when you hit back, the browser automatically closes the tab.

And last but not least, the lock screen has also been overhauled with a camera icon that lets you quickly launch the camera and take a photo, but also with media controls that now show up at the top of the screen.

Keep in mind that this build is part of the Windows Insider program, and bugs still exist, so you’re not recommended to try it out on your main device.
