Browser market share in March 2016

The latest set of browser market share figures provided by Net Applications indicate that Microsoft’s strategy of replacing Internet Explorer with Edge is partially working because the 20-year-old browser is quickly losing ground these days.

Google Chrome, on the other hand, is growing very fast and is expected to dethrone Internet Explorer as the world’s leading browser as soon as next month.

With Windows 10, Microsoft has pledged to no longer release improvements to Internet Explorer, as the operating system comes with Edge browser set as default on both PCs and mobile devices. Since the company’s pushing so hard for everyone to adopt Edge, it was just a matter of time until Internet Explorer started losing users, and it appears that this is already happening.

Current market share figures

At this point, Internet Explorer continues to hold the top spot with 43.40 percent, but Google Chrome is very close behind with 39.09 percent, up from 36.56 percent the month before. Internet Explorer dropped 1.39 percent in the last 30 days, so if the same trend is maintained, Google Chrome is set to become the world’s leading browser in April.

Version-wise, Internet Explorer 11 continues to be the preferred choice for desktop users around the world with a share of 23.18 percent while Chrome 49 and 48 come on the next two positions with 13.67 percent and 11.33 percent, respectively.

Microsoft Edge has also improved a lot during the last month, growing to 3.55 percent for version 13 and to 0.75 percent for 12.

A bigger growth is expected for Microsoft Edge in the coming months, as Redmond is already planning some pretty improvements to the app, including extension support, which is already in beta testing as part of the Windows Insider program. The Windows 10 Anniversary Update coming in the summer should bring many more enhancements to Edge browser and thus help boost its adoption.

"Likely"??? Check this site: https://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php

Chrome has been the most popular browser since 2012 btw

Only ones claim that IE is still ahead is those guys from Net Marketshare   who works for Microsoft who do endless Market Share  reports once a month of Microsoft competing against its self . When in reality right under Windows7  are the  smart phone O/S Microsoft dont have but 52% of the total O/S market share and 3 out of 4 says Google is ahead on browsers .

Google is using some quite aggressive techniques, bundling Chrome with free application (i,e, Avast), "hijacking" current browser, and including better flash decoders and video codecs then Firefox. They claim to be "faster" and "smooter" which, if true, might be on differential level, actually imperceptible for users. "Googlebooks", a quite limited but cheap gadget, is also a great help.

As a typical "joke", just some weeks ago I saw a relative using Google Chrome on her laptop. When I asked her how comes she's using it, she answered me that she had no idea how the browser changed to Google Chrome. It simply appeared one good day and she continued using it. Later, she did remember a popup telling her something like Google Chrome was not her default browser etc... and she pressed YES. Well she also told me that actually she liked Google Chrome, she also uses gmail, google drive, google search so she feels that using Google Chrome is just cool so no case!.No one ever told her if Google Chrome was worst, better or the best and she doesn't know much about computers, uses it for Word, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, emailing, storing her personal photos and listening music: a typical complete noob Internet user.

I decided there was no case trying to explain her if Google Chrome was better or not than IE, Edge or Firefox!

Google's been luring people into Chrome by this, more effective than other techniques.

they're not even telling the user that Chrome is the fastest and most secure one, just stating that it's a fast and secure one.. like other browsers aren't.

the key here is how to get the noobs' attention B)

Firefox is the much better Browser for many reasons.

Majority on internet are just n00bs.   Most popular does not mean best.

I prefer Palemoon; is lots faster compared to FF (and Chrome) and a lot more customizable + uses less memory

I never tried Palemoon but I do have Waterfox installed as well. Not sure if I notice any difference between Waterfox and Firefox

Google Chrome is a piece of crap that still has the same old UI since it got released :| There are better alternatives out there like Firefox, Vivaldi, Maxthon, even Opera :| I personally use Vivaldi and Microsoft Edge

Will Palemoon & Waterfox support unsigned add-ins after FF drops support support for them?  Have they made announcements?

Internet Exploder has been the worst browser since Windows 2000.  Chrome and Pale moon are my top choices.
