Stats show adoption of Windows 10 is on the rise

   Windows market share in March

New statistics provided by Net Applications for the month of March 2016 show that Windows 10 adoption is on the rise and the new operating system has managed to achieve another personal best.

But while Windows 10’s growth is clearly good news for Microsoft, there’s another reason for the tech heads in Redmond to celebrate: Windows 7 also keeps losing users, which shows that the new version is slowly becoming successful.

At this point, Windows 7 continues to be the leading choice, as it’s powering 51.89 percent of the desktop computers around the world, but its market share is dropping every month. In the last 30 days, Windows 7 has dropped from 52.34 percent to 51.89 percent, and the same trend is likely to be maintained for the remainder of the year as well. Back in December, Windows 7 was running on 55.66 percent of the PCs out there.

Windows 10 remains the runner-up

Windows 10 is now the second most popular choice among desktop users, so it has a share of 14.15 percent, up from 12.82 percent the month before. Back in December, Windows 10 was spotted running on 9.96 percent of computers.

The other Windows versions on the market continue losing ground, although Windows XP still proves to be a tough nut to crack. XP is now at 10.90 percent, down from 11.24 percent the month before.

Windows 8.1 is also declining, but this isn’t at all a surprise, given the fact that Windows 10 is available as a free upgrade on PCs running this version, so it’s now at 9.55 percent. Mac OS X is still far behind, Net Application claims, with a global market share of 4.05 percent for version 10.11 and 2.06 percent for 10.10.

Linux is even more behind, and it has nearly the same market share as the old Windows Vista: 1.78 percent for the open-source platform and 1.41 percent for Microsoft’s biggest flop ever.

There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.  Even if this were true, it appears that what is tracked is installs and not rollbacks and with every iteration of the GWX that microsoft releases there are 'accidental' installs that require rollback.  I try to keep track of all the rollbacks I have personally done, talked people thru over the phone, or emailed/texted instructions on how to do it, and so far that is 3031 rollbacks, though I know I have missed some because I can't drive, talk on the cell phone, and keep notes at the same time.  And I don't have a count of the number of instructions that those people might have passed to their friends.  Especially amongst the senior community, where it seems the 'accidental' installs are proliferating because Microsoft likes to pick on those that are computer illiterate.  According to some of my friends, who have done more than I have, the requests for help and assistance has stayed fairly stable since Microsoft started screwing.....uh..I mean, giving....people Windows 10.

Every time Windows 7 or Windows 8.1  loses  a number does not mean Windows 10 got it .  Microsoft  are not the only one who makes O/S  they could have lost  that Number to Android  , Apple Or Linux . It's true man, if they dont give REDSTONE #1 away for free, then no point in upgrading, f**k it. No one will pay for it. Then after REDSTONE #1 if you are already activated, I bet you will have to do a CLEAN INSTALL of W10 (again) because of the bug fixes and changes.

 

Upgrading from 10240 (July 29th) release to TH1 create a lot of problems for people. It was easier for them to download TH1 ISO and do clean install. Who wants to clean install their computer that much? It's so annoying, to get everything setup and run properly. SMH! I hate doing this.

and win10 is not free, it's bout 100us$ for home (and 200us$ for pro) in MS Store (and there are people who buy that)  . if someone has w8/w7 (means that someone has paid for w8./w7) they eligible to upgrade to win10 for free. i think the free upgrade is good thing for MS, as for usuall (MS in "old days") users need to pay for new MS os and then MS forced users with end-of-support and no-support for new features (like directx and such).

How many users the computer illiterate users knows about windows ten and KBthirtythirtyfivefiveeightythree unless they have family and friends that have said something.  Majority of users that havent bought windows ten havent bought windows ten because they cant afford a new pc right now not because there is something wrong with windows ten or they think they need to upgrade and they cant afford it or there on windows seven or eight and dont feel like upgrading right now not because something is wrong with windows ten.  The users that dont care for windows ten because of its data collection on this site and different tech sites are avoiding it because there wanting to standby for redstone and hoping the give complete control over it I hope they do.

Before Windows 10 foil came out  they was a lot complaining  and really i could care less  about  Android, iOS  ,OSX ,,, I didn't  buy these O/S I bought Windows  , While I never complained  about Windows before Windows 10 foil  I  been warning people about the evils of Google since 2008  , I just dont hate Microsoft's spying i hate all forums of data harvesting . Windows 10  foil is free to the majority of  windows users small business and home users   tell at lest July 29th 2016 not only is it free they try to force it on you and the gains it seen in March 2016 came from force upgrading it on people who were  computer illiterate , then Microsoft has the balls to brag about stealing numbers ,  i would be ashamed,  bad business ethics  . Most people didn't update because they wanted too , Just like many people didn't update from XP  to windows 7 because they wanted too its because  they cut  off updates . Big  business is worse about making decisions for you  than you're parents were when you was a kid if you let them. I'ts a shame most grown people cant make decisions for themselves  anymore . If they keep making windows 10 you will have to pay for it again over and over  when you're  support runs out  by October 13, 2020 tops  if you want to keep receiving  major updates and  the media claims they won't be a windows 11 ,, So that means by the time windows 7 runs out  if you want the newest Windows 10 you will need to buy it. but Microsoft  has the end of life for Windows 10 listed for October 14, 2025 . So it means everyone  will have to ether buy it again  or  they will be another windows out. I would not be shocked if they got a billion people on Windows 10  and made something new because they have been doing it for 40 years .

The whole thing about  Windows becoming  like Mac OSX  you will get new versions of windows they  just all will be called Windows 10  with a new codename . And Microsoft  only gives major  upgrades for 5 years top  but always there's been a new windows out before 5 years so  you stop getting  them  as soon as a new windows came out.. You will need to buy it every so often even if they go this route  this is so businesses can just pay for it  again and update too it  trough windows updates .

 

The last  2 releases of windows  only got one major service  release ,,, The Most they ever gave for free were 3  , After the 1st two for windows 10 there going to make you wait a  whole year for the 3rd one,  funny other windows for the last 6  years  never needed but one major upgrade for 10 years of service  . I see windows 10 as being so unstable  that it's a step back to the 1st decade of this century,  were it needs all these major updates, it's a unfinished  product  and will always be unfinished tell and if  they make another windows .
