Redmond shows new video during Build conference

Microsoft revealed during the first day of Build 2016 developer conference that Windows 10 was running on more than 270 million devices, making it the fastest-growing version of the operating system “ever.”

A video streamed by the company during the opening keynote put Windows 10’s achievements in the spotlight in order to clearly show that adoption of the new operating system goes according to plan, and the whole world is actually moving to it.

Microsoft says that Windows 10 has recorded “the most monthly hours of use ever,” and somehow, it has managed to figure out that “customers love it more than any other Windows.”

Truth be told, Windows 10 has proven to be quite a love-it-or-hate-it kind of product, as part of those who installed it liked what they saw instantly while others are fighting hard to stick with Windows 7 or 8.1 despite Microsoft’s push.

Cortana adoption already impressive

Additionally, the Redmond-based software giant claims that adoption of Cortana personal assistant is also impressive now that this technology is available on desktop computers too. There have been “over 5 billion questions asked of Cortana” since the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft says in the video. Cortana is one of the OS features getting updates frequently and is set to receive more improvements with the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update due in the summer.

“6.6 million hours of Xbox One games were streamed to Windows 10 PCs,” and the debut of the new OS marked “the biggest year in Xbox history,” it adds as it tries to push Windows beyond the desktop.

Microsoft also praises the store and the universal app platform in the video, so have a look by clicking the play button below.

I wouldn't trust ANYTHING coming from M$ anymore

It's a shame too I was really looking forward to windows 10 tell I tired it  even planed on buying if they didn't give it away free , what they  claim to make it the best O/S  ever is the most obtrusive parts of the o/s  if you used a  ip sniffer you would  see it's best to block those features , That's the biggest thing i had against  it  anything they added as a new feature connected too it's data sucker and needed blocked.  If i need to block it whats the point of  installing it? I can install Windows 7 , Windows 8.1 or even Linux  without these features  and I dont always have it in the back of mind are they still spying on me . It made me paranoid to tell you the truth . Only way it could be the  best O/S  is if you don't care about you're privacy or you didn't realize that it invades you're privacy and  you would have to be totally out of touch with reality if you haven't heard by now,  but from my own testing not others words, there's no way i would ever trust it. And this is just one problem i had with it but by far the biggest.

Microsoft revealed today that eight months after launch,

Windows 10  is now on 270 million active devices.

That's an increase of about 70 million devices since January 2016,

when Microsoft revealed that Windows 10 was running on more than 200 million devices.

The company revealed other numbers of interest. Windows 10 users spent 75 billion hours in Windows 10,

and that more than 500 new devices built specifically for the platform have been released already.

Apart from all the positive/negative bullshits going around Windows 10, you can't ignore these great features it's got that 8.1 and 7 doesn't. 1st the cumulative updates that made life A LOT easier for everyone, (no need to spend hours after installing Windows to install hundreds of updates and multiple restarts afterwards). 2nd, the DirectX 12 (Obviously). 3rd, the built in virtual desktops that you can switch between almost instantly in case you need to (Ctrl+Win+right/left arrows). 4th, the store apps, almost all the fundamental apps available for Android/IOS are available on Win store too. honestly Win 7 is too old for 2016 and Win 8.1's UI is a nightmare.. ^_^

People stayed   on XP  for 12 years  tell they stop giving updates and still  it has a lot of people on it. but as developers drop support for it it will become like windows 98. So most chose stability over being new.  I know I  do with Windows and Linux.  Witch I have more than one PC and one with dual HHD  were i can test newer things without it being my production O/S  . I was on XP for 10 years  and many reverse engineers  and  other people were still on it after i went on Windows 7 .

Anyone that had problems with  Windows 8.1 UI  dont know very much about pcs at all it can be tweaked very easy to look and run anyway you want .

I will be glad when they start charging money for Windows 10 ,when people have to buy it , the real truth will be reviled . Any new O/S  you should test it at lest a month in real time  to see if that's the way you want too go.

So by people you mean only yourself, gotcha.

none of the tweaks for Windows 8.1 can make it as good as Windows 10's UI. people already have to buy it, actually Microsoft started rolling out Windows 10 copies from the first day it was released. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832588491

AFAIK the truth is already revealed, you missed Assassin's Creed revelation ?

With all the updates Windows 10 gets you would have to use Windows Blinds  because  of the changes . Ive not used Windows Blinds  since I was on XP  :P

Exactly, but one doesn't usually jump from one distro to another just because he/she doesn't like the look of it. the difference between Linux distros aren't just about their theme, they differ in underlying structures. btw those distros trying to mimic Windows' look are the most useless ones.

Most distros  i dont like the look of but the only windows i really liked the looks  of was windows 7 . Most any distro you can make them look as you want many come with several  different  guis you can download for them without changing  distros at all , so really that's a not reason too distro hop . Once you download a theme you can easy change them from the theme manger. I try different distros on my on other HHD  and dual boot but really I dont hop much.  I may be changing soon after i been on Linux  a year i may go to  something more advanced soon .

If you can't tell the difference between Mac and Linux and if you really believe that Win10 ui is actually good then you really deserve your free copy of Win10.

Closest  thing to a Mac OSX  i ever tired  was elementary OS Linux it won Best-Looking Distro 2016   . I never bought a Mac box all my boxes came with Windows on them. What i meant by advanced  was a rolling-release distribution of Linux  witch is much more harder to maintain  and learn like ARCH .

I am staying out of this one.  I will say that I went back to Windows 8.1 but I had forgotten how much I hatted that Pop Out from the right side of the screen so I went back to Windows 10.  That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Some things  you cant get use to bro , I got use to using Linux pretty fast though after trying windows 10   ,  I game on PS4 so Linux suits me fine , I more or less go on my windows machines  to keep them maintained  and the programs updated .  I went on windows  last month  for about 20 days in a row  i think  that was the longest  i was on windows since i bought that PC  , I had to get back on Linux  again before i relapsed back to my old bad habits again .   :)

I dont want have to buy no new hardware soon I just bought a new windows 8.1 DELL PC back in the fall 2015  they was on sale because the newer ones with Windows 10 were coming out.  That's  why I switch back and forth Ill use my PC  with 3 year old hardware in it and ill use my newer one for awhile  to make them last longer .  My Windows 7 x64 machine 4 cores never been used much  i just have it to convert videos and stuff in  i've had it since like 2011 same hardware . Only reason you would change Hardware a lot if you game or it failed , Best to just wait tell you're ready  to buy a new PC if you dont game a lot  even if i did game on a pc and had to use windows 10 i would dual boot it with Linux and only use Windows 10 for gaming   . My Nephew  has  a PC with windows 10 on it, he only  uses to game. When needs to do his school work he uses  his Windows 7 PC  he dont trust it  to be a work  PC  . :P
