Let’s talk about Windows 10, my least favorite subject right now

A reader pointed me to this insightful post, from Koroush Ghazi on TweakGuides. Koroush hits so many nails straight on the head, that I’m still tickled after reading it several times.

What do you think?

Let’s talk about Windows 10, my least favorite subject right now. At the end of last year I announced that for personal and professional reasons, I would not be doing a TweakGuides Tweaking Companion for Windows 10, but that I would try to compile a brief Windows 10 tweak guide. Well I’ve tried, and I’m just not finding it possible to write a decent but brief guide. Windows 10 is an ever-changing, non-transparent, disjointed mess of an OS. Many of its annoyances can’t be successfully tweaked away, and those that can require pages and pages of explanation. Furthermore, any such guide would require constant editing over time as Microsoft alters Windows 10 on almost a monthly basis now.

But perhaps the single biggest reason I’m not motivated to write a Windows 10 guide is that I’ve rapidly lost all respect for Microsoft, and consequently have lost a great deal of interest in anything to do with their products. Microsoft’s clumsy, desperate, visionless push to get PC users to adopt dumbed-down mobile-oriented apps purely for their own commercial benefit; the unrelentingly persistent, unethical, and highly deceptive way they’re trying to trick less tech-savvy Windows 7 and 8.1 users into “upgrading” to Windows 10; and their insistence on reducing user choice and control over Windows have all left a very bad taste in my mouth. This is an inept company struggling for relevance in the mobile era by shamelessly abusing its monopoly on desktop operating systems, and I don’t want to play any part in helping them do that.

i would say , if you do not like it , do not use it.

the biggest problem is,  if you do not follow you would get lost.

xp no support

vista (hmmmm no support )

windows 7 - nice os but shortly after (no support)

so what can whe do (tweak the best out of windows 10 and get support?)

so whatever you lilke , windows 10 is there.

tweak it as you  want.

anyway everybody should decide by himself.    i did not follow & seems lose nothin':P

Just wait until SHITSTONE (opps I mean REDSTONE) comes out. That will be a dosey.

They are planning to remove file explorer with the ribbon how it is in 7/8.1 and make it a stupid METRO APP style with tabs (bullshit) which will be hard to navigate and dumbing it back down to XP days (even worse) less features then XP because it will be METRO STYLE without the ribbon, which I hope if anyone that has to use W10, Classic Shell will write a Classic Explorer Window for it.

The migration and removal of Control Panel into SETTINGS.

SETTINGS MENU is the worst piece of shit I have ever had to navigate in my entire life. I get lost constantly and whenever I do try to make changes they are so f**king dumbed down that I end up going into control panel and doing it from there. Tell me how they plan to get all the features of control panel, like NETWORK MANAGEMENT and DEVICE MANAGER and a proper BATTERY/POWER MANAGEMENT and SECURITY & MAINTENANCE MENU into settings? Am I going to have to navigate through 50 tabs just to reach the destination?

When I can just open up CP, click SETTINGS or SECURITY or NETWORK or WHATEVER I want and have access to advanced menus via context or 1 click? Tell me who the F**K are they catering too? A stupid tablet?

What MICROSHIT doesn't realize is that WINDOWS PHONE = DEAD. SURFACE SUCKS and SOON will be DEAD, why? Because Android tablet and iPAD for iSHEEPLE dominate the market and that won't change. No one wants a surface or a windows phone. Everyone either wants a SAMSUNG or iPHONE. Simple as that.

So why Windows is making everything all stupid touch based with stupid little ON-OFF SLIDE SWITCHES is beyond me. Cater to your desktops and IT professionals and businesses that rely on Widnows. let the hipsters keep using iMAC and the servers will always run on LINUX, and pro IT guys will always use Linux and UBUNTU. So F-OFF.

Microshit really messed up with W10 and thats the truth. Making everything all "TOUCH INTERFACE". More then 90% of the people that will use W10 will not have a touch screen. Only a surface or some chinese knock-off W10 tablet, thats it. To ruin the entire interface is beyond my comprehension, and the forced BS updates just puts the icing on the cake.

Just leave file explorer and CP how it is, and DELETE SETTINGS crap. And don't get me started on a rant about the stupid Windows store. Like I'm stupid enough to buy junk from there.

All these "INNOVATIONS" are like 8 years too late. Should have started same time with PLAY STORE and iTUNES, Microsoft MORONS. Satya and Gabe Apu have no idea what people want, no f**king clue. No idea what the point of W10 FEEDBACK was if they didn't bother to listen to anyone normal, just the stupid hipster junkies.

Thanks for your concern, but I'm perfectly calm and my blood pressure is under control. :)

Microsoft's unethical Windows 10 upgrade strategy is slowly unravelling, their W10 update methodology is broken, Windows 10 Mobile is all bar stillborn, the Windows 10 store is gathering cobwebs from lack of interest, and more of the media is starting to notice all those.  MS will soon have to eat crow and make the changes users are demanding, so all is good with the world.

For most/all Windows 10 apps, there are good 3rd party applications out there that are designed for keyboard/mouse interfaces, and work far better than the MS supplied touch UI rubbish.

I'm more worried with the explorer window and control panel part of the operating system. Already had to tweak the shit out of it to get rid of the bloatware crap, MS garbage forced apps, whoretana disabled via group policy since she likes to spy so much and all that telemetry gathering crap. If you got rid of that stupid start window/menu in 8.1 and left it Start8 then it would be a worthy successor to W7. Otherwise 10 is just a hunk of shit, that I constantly have to update (VM) and when this supposedly superior REDSTONE hits the market all will be well.

Why didn't they listen to any of the user feed back? Even destroying something as simple as playing around with desktop settings, removing default sound schemes and so forth.

Why not ditch the f**ken 16.7million color scheme and go back to 256 colors. Would be much more favorable. Or even monochrome. Since everything has to be black or white, depending on light or dark theme.

all the tweaks you did could be automatically done by something like destroy windows 10 spying tool, defender, cortana, telemetry services, windows updates etc. don't make things complicated;)

I use XYPlorer instead of Windows Explorer. And there are a few more alternatives.

I agree about the Control Panel/Settings dog's breakfast. Just goes to show how immature W10 really is. Even 8 months after its release, it's nowhere near as complete as previous Microsoft OS's were when they were first released. Perhaps because it's free MS think they can get away with this work-in-progress OS.

They do listen, but selectively. If they listened to it all, it would be a better and more popular OS.

Microsoft have been digging their heels in about many unpopular features, but then again so have W7 and W8.1 users in rejecting W10. My money's on MS to blink first. :)

There is a lot of hidden stuff in Windows 10, but the biggest hide is the invisible part of the name, Windows 10 BETA.  It is always going to be in beta and the user base is really the beta testers, who spend way too much time redoing previous settings and tweaks every time Microsoft decides to throw out an update (which they aren't even honest about explaining what they do).  In the meantime, those of us running 7 and 8.1 are merrily computing away.  Who cares if Microsoft supports them or not, we are better off if they aren't supporting them because then they don't try to foist more crap on us.  Windows XP and 98SE have never been so good as they have since Microsoft quit supporting them, so 7 and 8.1 will only get better.

If its not about UMP  to make XBOX  , phones  and Desktop  to all be come a one windows order, were you have the same apps and games on all 3, they  dont want to hear it .

Or something to help developers use Windows 10  to do work on there cloud platform  . Only reason there going  to bash Ubuntu Linux on Windows 10 is for developers . Microsoft is not going add nothing to Windows 10 that don't benefit them . If they dont think they can make billions  off it  they ignore you're idea and even if you give them good idea they are the one that gets paid not you . I dont even share my ideas with warez community any more so i'm sure not going to share with  them  billionaires unless they want to make me rich  . And that's not happening  they got  there costumers  testing for  free and its one big mess.
