“Why would you buy a PC anymore?” Tim Cook says

apple-boss-now-claims-the-windows-10-pc-

Apple CEO Tim Cook

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said last week that PCs were no longer appealing to buyers across the world because they were replaced with hybrids such as the iPad Pro, which can perform the best of more different devices, in this case, tablets and laptops.

But in a new statement, Cook now explains that, when he said that, he actually referred to Windows PCs, as he didn’t consider Macs to be traditional PCs.

“We don’t regard Macs and PCs to be the same,” he is quoted as saying by Independent.

MacBooks and iPads closer together

While Tim Cook claims that Apple isn’t interested in building a hybrid that would mix MacBooks and iPads, in the same way Microsoft did with the Surface Book (which is both a laptop and a tablet), the CEO explains that the gap between MacBooks and iPads is not as big as some might be tempted to believe.

“It’s true that the difference between the X86 [personal computer] and the A-series [Apple iPad architecture] is much less than it’s ever been,” he continues.

“That said, what we’ve tried to do is to recognise that people use both iOS and Mac devices. So we’ve taken certain features and made them more seamless across the devices. So with things like Handoff we just made it really simple to work on one of our products and pick it up and work on the next product.”

For the moment, sales of Windows PCs aren’t going exactly as planned, but Windows continues to remain the platform of choice for more than 90 percent of the world’s computers.

Analyst firm Gartner has announced PC shipments totaled 73.7 million units in the third quarter of 2015, which is a 7.7 percent decline as compared to the same period of the previous year. Sales, however, are expected to increase in the remaining months of 2015 thanks to the holiday shopping season, but also to the arrival of Windows 10, which is believed will convince more buyers to get new computers.

Lol! Yeah people have no interest on buying new computers because they have enough power and much more to complete big and small tasks with ease.

Hybrid computers are still computer (portable sort of computers) so what the hell is he talking about, and for the title is a fu**ing bait, he didn't talk about windows 10 he talked about fu**ing extinct of desktop computers.

And it's a fu**ing joke to who say that desktop PC's and TV will disappear from our houses, unless he's advertising for his next product, or he's fu**ing crazy.

What you laughing at Apple sells phones something people still actually buys no one has bought any computers much since windows 7 And no one uses M$ phones.

Why would you put all you're ducks on a dead unneeded technology that only caters to like less than half of its users 1 billion business users , the business world and XP would still be working for them fine if M$ didn't retire it . I would not invest a lot of money in the Desktop PC or Laptop PC and software ether no one is buying them . Everyone that uses windows 10 almost got it free somehow . Home users are sure not going to buy something gave to them for free witch is more than half that don't have to buy windows 10 there like 2 billion home users

Apple is now worth more than Microsoft and Google combined

it's shallow from someone in his position to even mention something like that - jealousy

Why would he be jealous of a piece of crappy software like windows 10 when his company is king and has more money than M$ and Google combined? :P

Apple moved away from making PC units when Steve Jobs introduced the Iphone years ago he seen there was no future in it after being very successful at it for a long time . Microsoft keeps updating there software but for what ? All business ran fine off XP and everyone else is using older model pcs that was made for windows 7 . They should just kept developing XP years ago instead of making unneeded versions of windows that never sell that good tell they force business to update to there next version of unneeded software . when you have to force users to upgrade you're technology is not really going anywhere .

Edit: Steve Jobs knew that the stuff he made would be obsolete after so many years so he kept coming up with new Ideas This is how Apple started up, him and his partner made boxes that ripped off the phone company that gave you free long distance illegally when they were in collage . He founded Apple on this Idea and started making MACs then he evolved to Phones with the internet . In the technology world its evolve or die. M$ only really makes old tech software with new features is all sooner are latter PCs will be like VCRs once someone figures out something better. Now its Tim Cook has to keep coming with new ideas there doing better than M$ and Google under him and in the end that's what matters to the rich.

I'm not sure he knows what PC means.. Personal Computer. Now what's a computer? A simple Google search: "..an electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program." "Computer generally means a programmable machine. The two principal characteristics of a computer are: it responds to a specific set of instructions in a well-defined manner and it can execute a prerecorded list of instructions (a program)."

Also not sure why Apple CEOs always come up with such foolish comments.

The term PC was thought up by Steve Jobs its like everything else M$ ever come up with they adopted it from elsewhere. Apple makes all kinds of things from Phones to Music now . Microsoft only done good at selling 3rd party software is all so far and they flopped as much as they have succeeded that's why Apple has the most money . :P

What I mean by 3RD party software its my choice to install some other O/S on my PC . Ive never bought a PC yet that was made by M$ . :)

The term Microsoft Bill Gates got the idea from a company he use to work for Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS). Owned by DR. Henry Edward Roberts he made the 1st PC the Altair 8800 but it was not really called that . Even Microsoft name is from another company .

See back before Roberts Computers were all very large and his was small enough anyone could use them at work at home so he invented the 1st PC . It means a compact computer for personal use. But these were really hard to set up they were kits .

The 1st PCs that were mass produced like what we know today were Apple II These are the 1st PCs I ever seen in computer class at a school when they were new.

Gabriel Ayuso, Software Engineer

The Apple II was the first mass produced personal computer as we know it today with a disk drive, keyboard and monitor. There were other computers before but they weren't really usable and most were sold as kits (including the Apple I) one had to assemble.

So in other words Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak made the 1st usable pcs.. If not for them we would not be using Windows or Linux software as we know it today .

LOL.. I am not going to even say it.. but yeah ANYWAY... then again maybe I already have.

Wait... wasn't this already done with Windows Phone, Windows RT and Windows 8? I mean just saying... Oh yeah then the development of x86 and x64 Architecture in Windows Surface Pro 3 processors.... the move away from ARM... which is still in use for Many ( DEVICES ) of many forms.. including A/C Control Units... and some notebooks.. Linux systems.. Android based devices...

I think its great they have a new direction.. a statement of someone who is proud of the development I am sure...

Saying any of these are complete waste of time.. is probably wrong... The PC is an old term.. period.. by definition.. everything around is falling under that heading to nit-pick the term is just antagonistic really...

Bottom line at the end of the day.. regardless of what it is running on, and what OS.. or firmware.. if a user makes a change then the failure is up to them and the program or person who help make that mistake ( just like I learned today )... It doesn't matter if its a phone, or PC - god forbid I use that term.. or whatever else... The more people that use it... the more mistakes will be made... increase that number and then increase the other one... Just like Windows.. Macs, Linux boxes and all the rest all fall down.... by default they are fine but they all have integral flaw..

For every argument about Ford vs. Chevy... the end user is you first and foremost foe. SALE SALE sale...

No one uses Windows Phone? are you sure? If they wouldn't sell Microsoft wouldn't keep making new ones. Windows XP is DEAD, get over it, it's OLD, UNSECURE and it has more problems than Windows Vista! Try to install Windows XP on a PC newer than 2008 and then waste a few hours searching for drivers ;) I can't recall how many times I had to install XP on unknown computers just to figure out that the network drivers wouldn't work at all... no use for device ID because I wouldn't be able to download them anyways. So I had to get home, search for the drivers by device ID, download them, put them on a stick and get back on installing them on that crappy operating system. Yeah, it was great, back in 2002 ;) but NOT ANYMORE. Stop living in the past ;)

Windows 10 is free, for the time being, and it's the best move Microsoft did yet. Why pay for it everytime a new version gets out... Have you even tried Windows 10? And I'm talking about the new version (the one released this month). It's amazing if you have a decent PC with an SSD in it... 3 - 5 seconds to cold start it is amazing ;) I have a Microsoft Lumia with Windows 10 on it, I can't say I'm completely satisfied with it because the app gap, but it works with what's I'm using it for, making calls, using Skype, Facebook, Twitter, checking my favorite websites and there's even some awesome games on it (I almost never play games on my phone).

If you enjoy playing games on your PC, why the HECK would you stick with that OLD Windows XP? :| 90% of the new games released don't even run on it. There's no DirectX 10, 11 and 12 on it, there's NO 64-BIT for the consumer version ;) I mean, if your PC has only 2GB RAM yeah, use it, it's not like I care... but having 24GB RAM requires a 64-bit operating system that takes use of that memory and doesn't just let it get full with dust ;) I'm currently playing Assassin's Creed: Syndicate ;) try to run that on XP or on MAC... Yeah, that's what I thought, you can't... and as for business, why should they use Windows XP? It just slows you down... I can't remember how many times my work collegue cried for help as she was trying to fix her XP errors and she couldn't work for 2 days on that laptop because of them ;) and let's not even talk about that ugly blue screen that's on XP (I haven't seen a blue screen on Windows 10 since it got released to consumers).

From all you wrote there I can figure out 1 thing, you're an Apple fanboy ;)

I got over 300 games on Steam, like a dozen on Battle.net and a more on Origin ;) I don't only pirate games, when I download pirated games is to try them I don't want to buy them and regret afterwards... For example when it was released, I got Bioshock Infinite, I've started playing it cracked, and I just couldn't stop... the game was SOOOOO GOOOD... so I've finished it cracked, but after that I still got it on Steam :) at a lower price of course :)

I tried Linux... it's not for me... It looks nice, it feels nice but it's definitely not for what I need my OS to be... lacks of games, lacks of popular software, no Office on it (except if you use Wine) it's too much of a hustle... this way I can just install Windows 10, in under 10 minutes, install a few apps, 2 - 3 games and I'm good to go for a few days ;) About freedom, if you're scared about privacy on Windows 10 you can simply use O&O ShutUp10 ;) it works for me. Microsoft just released a new build of Windows 10 for phones... installing right now... finally fixed the storage problem.

apple is for end users as simple as that, if you are a developer or like tweaking the pc the way you want and if you want liberty you install the software you want not like apple who monopolize everything on their machines and phones; MS rules big time and time has proven that, people still compare mobiles with MS; cmon let's compare PC IBM to PC MAC and let's talk business, never compare a mobile to a personal computer OS

Ahah, look who's saying this, whose product (Mac) hasn't gain event 10% market share since Jobs first launched Mac. Many OS has come and gone, but Windows still the end user choice. ;)
