Batu69
The return of the Start menu to Windows 10 was one of the things that Microsoft managed to get right with the latest version of its operating system. While the company has promised to bring Windows 10 to as many devices as possible, it ruled out doing the same for Windows RT devices. That said, we were told that some key features of Windows 10 would make their way to Windows 8.1 RT. That day has finally rolled around and thanks to the arrival of Windows RT 8.1 Update 3, the Start menu is now available in Windows RT. This is likely to be the last major update to be released for Windows 8.1 RT, but it plugs a hole that many users have been complaining about for a long time.Microsoft had previously said that Windows RT users would not be able to upgrade to Windows 10 but would be able to enjoy some of the features of the latest version of the operating system.Aside from the arrival of what many people believe to be the central feature of Windows, Windows RT 8.1 Update 3 brings little new. There are some changes to lock screen options, but that's about it. Bringing the build number up to 9600, the update was spotted by Tero Alhonen who tweaked about the resturn of the Start menu: Start menu on Windows RT 8.1 pic.twitter.com/k2dOfYd2fh— Tero Alhonen (@teroalhonen) September 15, 2015Windows RT 8.1 Update 3 is rolling out right now, so if you have Automatic Update enabled it will be with you shortly. If you're keen to get the Start menu back as soon as possible, you can manually check for updates.Source
steven36
This is likely to be the last major update to be released for Windows 8.1 RT, but it plugs a hole that many users have been complaining about for a long time. There's no way to know this unless you have a crystal ballEnd of mainstream support dont end tell January 9, 2018 . But its a little to late to try bring life to a mostly dead O/S now . Most people that use it have been using start menu replacements for years. :) Microsoft told all kinds of lies on this one feature , they lied and and said was going bring it back before windows 10 , then they lied and they said wouldn't going bring it back , Now many installed windows 10 to get one . Now they bring it back. Sounds like they dont know what they are going to do even . :P They add the messed up windows 10 start menu to windows 8.1 ?when its one of the five things Microsoft needs to do to make Windows 10 better.Sort out the Start menuWindows users worldwide breathed a huge sigh of relief when they discovered Windows 10 would come with a Start menu, but it’s not a perfect implementation. The Live Tiles aren’t to everyone’s taste, but they’re easily hidden to create a more streamlined Start menu. The problem then is that there’s no way to customise the list of apps that appear. The only options are to pin your favourite apps to the Taskbar (which soon becomes unmanageable), launch them from the All apps list (which involves constant clicking back and forth) or launch them via the Search box (too much typing).A passable fourth option is to pin apps in their own group of ‘small’ Live Tiles, but we’d much rather have a way to pin them on the Start menu proper, rather than rely on Windows 10’s ‘Most used’ list. compgen1534
Start menu not even XAML in the picture. It's still DirectUI.
HX1
I have tried it on my tablets.. Not quite.. as I pictured it being described as a Windows 10 Start Menu.. Plus it has a hard time autochanging the colors to match the taskbar and windows.. and is not transparent... I do like the option to chose between them Start Menu from 8 and "10".. The original start menu is better for touch tablets with 10" screens... I do feel this will need an update to really be finished off well for RT though...has some issues.. They did however change the Logon Screen Background colors and methods to resemble 10 a little more with rounded Avatar and / or User Account images... trying different formats.. not for sure what I will keep for now.. I can get screenshots.. if anyone is interested.. May post in Post Them Desktops thread.. :P EDIT: I should ship my Lumia 2520 to Microsoft for testing.. and see if they send me a Surface Pro 3 back.. Ohh that would be cool...LOL Windows 10 AND full programs.. WooHoo.. Supposedly this is for Windows 8.1 as well but I haven't booted into it yet.. scared.. wondering what is going to happen..
